- Several young Lakers could be swapping teams as LA tries to acquire Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis
- Besides the Lakers young core, several veterans could also be thrown in
- We’ve found the best value bets on LA’s roster
Since acquiring LeBron James, it was only a matter of time before the Lakers’ rebuild would accelerate.
Now that a blue-chip target has appeared in Anthony Davis, LA is basically hitting the nitrous button.
The only person to post numbers like Anthony Davis's in 2018-19 in a full season is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Will history repeat itself?@KevinOConnorNBA: https://t.co/W5gGJj0Ylj pic.twitter.com/eshVknvSNm

And because of the good fortune of Davis’ representation also being linked both personally and professionally to James, the Lakers have been given an opportune window to try and make a deal happen now, ahead of the February 7th trade deadline.

As you can imagine, other than James, no one is untouchable.
So let’s look at the latest odds and see who might be packaged if a Davis trade does happen.
Odds on Which Players the Pelicans Will Receive if Anthony Davis is Traded to the Lakers
If Anthony Davis is Traded to the Lakers, Which Players Will the Pelicans Get in Return? | Odds (01/29/19) |
---|---|
Brandon Ingram | -500 |
Kyle Kuzma | -300 |
Lonzo Ball | -300 |
Josh Hart | -200 |
Ivica Zubac | -200 |
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope | -175 |
Rajon Rondo | -115 |
Lance Stephenson | +200 |
Michael Beasley | +300 |
JaVale McGee | +500 |
Tyson Chandler | +500 |
Lakers’ Young Core Four are all Available
It’s part of the reason Los Angeles has held onto Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart – for the moment they could be the centerpiece of a deal to bring LeBron James the superstar sidekick he needs to compete in the West.
Lonzo Ball doesn't want to end up on the Pelicans when all the dust settles with the Anthony Davis trade talks, but unfortunately for him, what he wants may not matter:https://t.co/1emLLSiauL pic.twitter.com/4jTM1J5yds

The toughest two to lose have to be Ball and Ingram. Ball, the young point guard prodigy that grew up in LA, has been hampered by injuries and inconsistencies in his first two seasons, but the potential is there to be the lead guy on a very good team. Averaging just under 10 points, five rebounds and five assists this year, he’s also (easily) the Lakers’ best and most instinctive defender, and that’s hard to get in any player, let alone a kid who’s just 21.
Getting it done with DEFENSE… the @Lakers' @ZO2_!

Ingram (16.6 points, 4.9 rebounds on 47.5% shooting), also just 21, has yet to fully realize that he can be a LeBron-Durant hybrid, with the ability to handle, pass and get his shot off whenever he wants. Like Ball, he does just enough to show he’s got “it'” but inconsistency and injury has plagued the former No. 2 overall pick.

Kuzma is essentially what you see, a 23-year-old lanky forward that can score the ball well (19.1 points, 5.9 rebounds on 46.6% shooting), and provide great energy as a third best player on a team. Hart (age 23) has been off-and-on this year, but he’s the best deep threat of the four (34.6% from three this season).
Magic Johnson should hold onto Kyle Kuzma for DEAR LIFE. pic.twitter.com/1xNIqY4qwl

It’s conceivable all four could be packaged, or Ivica Zubac (age 21), who has emerged as a steady big man, could be tossed in as well.
What are the Best Bets Here?
In all likelihood, laying a wager down on Ball, Ingram or Kuzma should, at worst, net you two out of three wins.
Report: To get Anthony Davis, Lakers must start trade offer with Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac, first-round pick https://t.co/RTsJ7PHfj6

On top of what’s rumored to be two unprotected first round draft picks, New Orleans should ask for nothing less than those three, and one of Zubac or Hart. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (-175) might be thrown in to make salaries match, as could Lance Stephenson (+200) and his guitar, and seldom used Micheal Beasley (+300), who’s essentially a cap number at this point in his career.
