Trying to tread water amid a trio of devastating injuries, the Orlando Magic (19-14, 12-4 home, 18-14-1 ATS) play host to the Brooklyn Nets (12-19, 7-10 away, 17-13-1 ATS) on Sunday afternoon at 3:40 pm ET at the Kia Center in Orlando. Though Paolo Banchero and the Wagner brothers (Franz and Moritz) all remain sidelined for the Magic, they are a 6.5-point favorite in Sunday’s NBA odds.

Brooklyn Nets +6.5 (-105) +240 O 203.5 (-110)

Orlando is also laying -303 odds on the moneyline while the Nets come back as +240 road underdogs. The game total is sitting at just 203.5, by far the lowest of the six games on today’s NBA schedule. (The other five all have a total of 213.5 or higher.)

The shorthanded Magic suffered their fourth loss at home in the six tries last time out, getting run over by the visiting Knicks, 108-85. Jalen Suggs had a game-high 27 points in a losing effort. No other Orlando player scored more than 14.

Orlando was absolutely demolished in the post, getting outscored 60-34 in the paint by New York, while also getting out-rebounded 44-33 over four quarters.

The road should considerably easier against the Nets on Sunday. Brooklyn ranks 29th out of 30 teams in the NBA in rebounding percentage (47.9%) and 24th in D-Rating (115.7).

After an 111-105 upset win over the Bucks in Milwaukee on Thursday as six-point underdogs, the Nets were back to their losing ways the next night, falling 96-87 at home to the Spurs, the third time in the last four games Brooklyn failed to reach the 100-point plateau.

The good news for Brooklyn is that leading scorer Cameron Thomas (24.7 PPG) is probable to return from a hamstring injury that’s kept him out since Nov. 25.

In what’s expected to be a slow-paced, low-scoring game, the player props are noticeably small. Suggs (16.8 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 3.9 APG) leads the point totals at just 22.5, followed by Brooklyn’s Cameron Thomas (24.7 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 3.4 APG) at 19.5 and Cameron Johnson (19.5 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.1 APG) at 18.5.

Orlando big man Goga Bitadze (9.6 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.0 APG) has the highest rebound total at 10.5 while everlasting project Ben Simmons (6.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 6.9 APG) has the highest assist total on the board at 6.5.

Nets vs Magic Prediction

This game pits two slow-paced, below-average offenses against one another, while also featuring one of the best defense in the league. (Orlando sits third in the NBA in Defensive Rating at 106.0.) With Brooklyn playing at literally the slowest tempo in the NBA (96.91) and Orlando not far behind in 28th (97.59), possessions and, thus, points are going to be at a premium.

As mentioned, the Nets have been held to double-digits in three of their last four games, and scoring on Orlando – particularly at the Kia Center – has proven an immensely difficult task all season long.

I can’t lay 6.5 points with Orlando given their own offensive woes amidst all their significant injuries, but I do like the under on the admittedly-low total of 203.5.

I am also betting Nets leading scorer Cameron Thomas to stay under 19.5 at -125. Thomas will be playing his first game in over a month due to a hamstring injury, and even before the injury, he’d stayed under 19.5 in four of seven.

BRK vs ORL picks:

  • Under 203.5 (-110) at BetMGM
  • Cam Thomas under 19.5 points (-125) at DraftKings
