It might very well be the most anticipated game of the NBA’s regular season, as the Dallas Mavericks (31-27, 13-16 away) visit the Los Angeles Lakers (34-21, 19-7 home). It’s the first time these franchises square off since the trajectory-shifting deal that sent Luka Doncic to LA for a package that sent back big man Anthony Davis. Dallas is short-handed and a heavy road underdog in the NBA odds when this one tips off Tuesday at 10pm ET from crypto.com Arena. TNT will be carrying the national broadcasts.
Mavs vs Lakers Odds
The Lakers check in as a 7.5-point favorite, and a short -303 on the moneyline. The total is set to 229.5 points, with the odds set at -110 on either side.

Dallas is not close to full strength, and especially depleted in the frontcourt. Davis (adductor) has played just his debut before going down, and he’ll be out for at least two weeks. Daniel Gafford (knee) and Dereck Lively II (ankle) are also down for multiple weeks. A fourth center, Dwight Powell (hip) is doubtful, while Caleb Martin (hip) has been ruled out. Starting forward PJ Washington (ankle) is questionable.
The only Laker definitely not suiting up is Maxi Kleber, who is out long term with a foot injury. LeBron James (foot) is on the injured list, but considered probable.

No surprise here that Doncic has the highest scoring prop against his former team at 30.5 points. James, who looks like he’s come out of a rejuvenation machine since the deal was made, is next on the Lakers at 25.5 points. Doncic has the top assist prop at 8.5, with James just behind him at 7.5.
The Dallas backcourt will likely be the main source of offense, with Kyrie Irving owning the Mavs’ highest scoring prop at 27.5 points. He’s led the team in scoring in four of the last five games.
Klay Thompson has a scoring line of 14.5. He’s tied with Doncic for the highest three-point prop at 3.5 makes.
Dallas Mavericks vs Los Angeles Lakers Predictions
- Mavericks vs Lakers pick: Lakers -7.5 (-115)
- Mavericks vs Lakers prop pick: Doncic Over 30.5 points (-115)
We’re about to find out just how hurt Doncic was by the still-shocking deal that moved him to the Lakers in what many people thought was an absolute fleecing of a trade.
After three games getting up to game speed and figuring out how he slides into the Lakers’ ecosystem, the 25-year-old Doncic showcased just what the Mavericks gave away, dropping 32 points, 10 boards, seven assists and four steals in a 123-100 demolition of the Denver Nuggets.
Winning in Denver is tough enough. Doing it for the Lakers, who had just one win against them in the last 14 games showed just how much of a game-changer Doncic is, and why the Lakers are a legit wager in the NBA Championship odds.
Dallas has owned this head-to-head of late, winning eight of the last 10, including a 118-97 whipping of LA on January 7, but throw those out and start anew, as both franchises aren’t the same.
The Mavericks had been on a good run even without Davis or the rest of their bigs, with wins in three of the last four, but they were shredded Sunday in San Francisco, losing 126-102 to the Golden State Warriors.
It’s no secret where teams are taking advantage: over the last five games, Dallas is last in the NBA allowing a whopping 62.8 paint points per game.
The Lakers should be living inside early and often, as they’re top eight in the league scoring at 50.1 paint points per game.
LA has gone 14-5 over the last 19, and are now just 2.5 games back of the 2-seed Nuggets in the West.
They’ve been trending upward, before even landing Doncic, who, by any metric, is a Top 3 player in the league right now.
Doncic should be a wrecking ball Tuesday, dismantling his old team in the way a bitter superstar should.
