Both LA and Phoenix are 2-1 O/U this season. Suns games are averaging exactly 228.0 PPG, while Lakers games have been much higher (236.6 PPG).

After splitting their first two games of the season on the road (116-113 OT win at the Clippers, 123-116 loss at the Lakers), the Suns were impressive in their home-opener on Saturday against Dallas, opening an eight-point lead at halftime (63-55) and winning every quarter en route to a 114-102 victory.

Durant had a team-high 31 in the win. Bradley Beal (19.5 PPG, 5.0 APG) missed last game with an elbow injury and is questionable for the Lakers game on Monday night.

Los Angeles stayed perfect last time out with a 131-127 win over the Kings as a half-point home favorite. Sacramento led by seven heading into the fourth quarter before a massive 44-point fourth from the Lakers sealed the victory. The LA comeback was spurred by a vintage triple-double from LeBron James (32 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists in just 34 minutes).

Off to a brilliant start this season, Anthony Davis (34.0 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 2.3 BPG) has a game-high point total of 26.5 points. AD is followed closely by Kevin Durant at 25.5 O/U and Devin Booker at 24.5 O/U. Durant is averaging 28.7 PPG through three games while Booker is at just 19.7 PPG.

Davis has a massive rebound total of 12.5. He grabbed a monstrous 16 rebounds in 38 minutes in the season-opener against Minnesota but has been held under ten in each of the last two games, despite playing another 38 minutes in each.

Lakers vs Suns Predictions

The Lakers look to be a much stronger team this year than last thanks to increased contributions from secondary scorers. Rui Hachimura has the green light to be more aggressive and he hasn’t hesitated. The former ninth-overall pick is averaging a career-high 16.7 PPG this season while taking a career-high 13.0 FGA per game and hitting at a career-bets 50% from beyond the arc.

It’s early days yet, but his emergence suddenly makes the LA starting five (LeBron, AD, Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves) look like one of the most intimidating and complete in the league.

The Laker bench is still subpar but in the early going that hasn’t been an issue. LA’s reserves are playing just 38 MPG (26th-most in the NBA) and have managed a respectable +1.7 NET Rating in that time. Later in LA’s five-game road trip, I expect the bench to be an issue. But not in the first game of the trip with rest days on either side.

LAL vs PHX Picks:

  • Lakers +4.5 (-115)
  • Hachimura over 14.5 points (-100)
  • Davis under 12.5 rebounds (-130)
