Los Angeles Pushes Back in Game 4
The Lakers played another excellent first half in their Game 4 victory, and have now led at the break in four games of the series. But unlike in the first three games, Los Angeles was able to hold on in the final 24 minutes on Saturday night. LeBron took on a bigger scoring role in the must-win game, dropping a team-high 30 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the floor, his highest number of field-goal attempts since Feb. 29 (a span of 22 games).
Anthony Davis added 25 points on 11-of-17 from the field plus a monstrous 23 rebounds and six assists. AD accounted for exactly half of LA’s 46 rebounds by himself.

As a team, the Lakers shot 52.2% from the field while holding the Nuggets to just 44.8%. The Game 4 win came in spite of a sublime triple-double from Nikola Jokic on the Denver side. The presumptive 2024 NBA MVP had a game-high 33 points, plus 14 rebounds, and 14 assists in a losing effort.
Jokic and company will feel plenty confident heading into Game 5 back at home. Not only did Denver run the table at home while winning the Western Conference last year (8-0), the Lakers haven’t won in Denver since April 10, 2022, losing seven straight since at Ball Arena.

LeBron’s point total for Game 5 is once again 26.5, same as it was for Saturday’s potential elimination game. Jokic’s total has increased one point from 26.5 to 27.5 after his 33-point outburst on Saturday night.
Lakers vs Nuggets Game 5 Prediction
The Lakers have shown a remarkable ability to start fast in this series. James and Davis are both playing exceptionally and Darvin Ham’s team will be in desperation mode from the opening tip. I can’t back a Lakers win given their lack of depth and the ongoing losing streak at Ball Arena, but I do like the value on LA winning the first half again at +180.
LAL vs DEN Game 5 pick: Lakers first-half moneyline (+180)
