Atlanta Hawks vs Detroit Pistons Picks

Atlanta’s downfall can be attributed to its injury situation. Unfortunately, there’s no end in sight. Starting small forward Jalen Johnson is out for the season, while starting center Clint Capela didn’t even travel with the team. To make matters worse, Trae Young is expected to play, but is dealing with an Achilles issue.

Those three are three of the four highest rated Hawks by PER. Johnson is the team’s leading rebounder, and ranks second in scoring and assists. He also logs the second most minutes on the team, and Atlanta’s results without him have been dreadful. The Hawks have not won a game since Johnson went down last month, and are 4-9 overall when he sits.

Over the last 10 games, Atlanta ranks 27^th in offensive rating and 24^th in net rating. Detroit on the other hand, ranks middle of the pack in those areas over the same stretch, and are fresh off back-to-back wins.

The Pistons took down Dallas and Chicago over the weekend, winning by 8+ points in both games. They’re getting fantastic production from Cade Cunnigham, more on him later, and are a perfect 2-0 already against the Hawks this season.

Detroit shot 50% from the field in both of those matchups, and with Capela and Johnson already ruled out, the Pistons should be efficient once again. Atlanta ranks 28^th in scoring defense this season, and have surrendered the fourth highest effective field goal percentage.
