It’s been a tale of two seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers (6-4, 5-0 home, ATS), who are 1-4 on the road but a perfect 5-0 at cypto.com Arena so far. The Lakers have a great chance to make it 6-0 on Wednesday night when they host the shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies (7-4, 3-2 away, 6-5 ATS) at 7:10 pm PT/10:10 pm ET. Memphis is missing three of its opening-night starters (Ja Morant, Marcus, Smart, and Desmond Bane) and heads into LA as a 6.5-point underdog in Wednesday’s NBA odds.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Los Angeles Lakers Prediction
- Lakers -3.5 (-180) at FanDuel
- Anthony Davis over 27.5 points (-110) at DraftKings
Sascha Paruk’s 2024-25 NBA betting record: 14-13 (+1.70 units). All wagers one unit unless stated otherwise.
The bodies are piling up on the Memphis sideline and, though they’ve navigated their early-season schedule admirably while shorthanded, the missing pieces are going to catch up to them. Expect it to start tonight in Los Angeles against a Lakers team that’s not just 5-0 at home straight-up, but also an NBA-best 5-0 ATS on their home court.
Los Angeles has won four of its first five home games by seven points or more, and the last two by double-digits (116-106 vs Philadelphia, 123-103 vs Toronto). The early NBA scoring leader, Anthony Davis (31.4 PPG, 10.4 RPG) has inserted himself into the NBA MVP odds conversation, currently sitting sixth at +1800, while soon-to-be-40 LeBron James is showing little signs of aging, averaging 23.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 8.9 APG (fifth-most in the league).

Davis (foot/eye) is listed as probable for Wednesday night and everyone expects him to play. The same is true of point guard D’Angelo Russell (undisclosed illness). The Lakers have had two full days of rest since Sunday’s win over Toronto. The Grizzlies also had Monday and Tuesday off after beating Portland (134-89 away) on Sunday night.

Averaging a career-best 31.2 PPG early in the season, Anthony Davis has a game-high point total of 27.5 O/U on Wednesday night.
With Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Marcus Smart all out of the starting lineup, Jaren Jackson Jr is expected to pick up the scoring slack, listed at 24.5 O/U. LeBron James (23.5 O/U) is the only other player set at more than 17.5.
It makes some sense for Davis’ point total to be four points lower than his season average given that: (a) he’s never averaged 30 points in a season before, and (b) he’ll be facing defensive standout Jaren Jackson Jr tonight. But I still like the Lakers big-man to go over. Memphis is playing at the third-fastest pace in the league so far this season, which should mean plenty of possessions and potential transition points for both teams.
Best Grizzlies vs Lakers Odds
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Memphis Grizzlies | +6.5 (-105) at BetMGM | +222 at Caesars | Over 231.0 (-110) at FanDuel |
Los Angeles Lakers | -6.5 (-110) at DraftKings | -250 at ESPN Bet | Under 232.5 (-115) at BetMGM |
There is an abnormally large gap in the game total. ESPN Bet has it at 232.5 with -110 odds each way but bet365 has it down at 231.0, also with -110 odds both ways.
The spread and moneyline don’t show as much variation, unfortunately. Every book has the Lakers as 6.5-point chalk, and most have both teams at -110 to cover. The outliers are BetMGM and Caesars, which are offering Memphis +6.5 at -105.
The best moneyline price on the Grizzlies to win straight-up is +222 at Caesars. ESPN Bet has the longest price on the Lakers’ moneyline at -250.
The NBA public betting splits for Wednesday show the public hammering to wagers in this game: the Lakers are currently getting 89% of moneyline handle, while the under is getting 87% of money bet on the total.
