The surging Boston Celtics (55-19, 31-7 away) seemed to have hit the accelerate button in time to be in peak form for the playoffs, as they stop in Memphis to take on the Grizzlies (44-30, 25-12 home), a team dangerously close to sliding into the play in. Action gets underway from FedExForum in Memphis beginning at 7:30pm ET, with TNT carrying the broadcast. Memphis’ recent struggles have them the home ‘dog in the NBA odds.

There’s one significant injury to report on the Boston side, as Jaylen Brown is listed as questionable as he deals with a knee injury.

Reserve Zyon Pullin (knee) is the only player sitting this one out for the Grizzlies.

A late-season coaching change did not give the Grizzlies the shot in the arm it needed Saturday night, as they lost to the Lakers 134-127.

They’ve now lost five times in the last six games, and they are bleeding points. During this current slide, Memphis has allowed at least 125 points in four of the last six.

Even for a team that is second in the NBA in scoring at 122.2 points per game, those are a lot of defensive struggles to outscore.

Memphis starts the day in fifth place in the West, currently holding one of the six automatic berths into the playoffs, but their recent struggles have them on shaky ground. The Warriors are just a game back, while the Timberwolves (1.5) and the Clippers (2.0) are within striking distance.

It doesn’t help that Boston comes to town, and the defending champs are cranking up that intensity down the home stretch as defense of their title looms.

The Celtics have lost just once in their last 14 games, and they’ve been especially stingy defensively, allowing an NBA-low 105.4 points during that stretch. Their offense is only 13th over that same span, putting up 116.9 points.

As they’ve worked in rest for their core to deal with any nagging injuries, Joe Mazzulla’s squad is tinkering around with lineups for any occasion come playoff time.

Last time out, he featured a lineup with 7-foot-1 Luke Kornet and 7-foot-2 Kristaps Porzingis on the floor at the same time. The result was a +21 rebounding edge on San Antonio in a 121-111 win.

Memphis has the last win between these two teams on Dec 7, 2024, but the C’s had won the previous six and eight of 10 overall.

Even if Brown can’t go, Boston is the deepest roster in the league, and the machine doesn’t stop. Look for them to continue dominating this matchup.
