The shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers (9-9, 3-4 away) continue their three-game road trip Friday down in Florida as they face the Orlando Magic (5-13, 4-5 home) at the Amway Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET.
The Sixers are trying to grind out these next couple of weeks without their three best players and the absence of the trio was felt Wednesday, losing 107-101 to the Charlotte Hornets. The Magic meanwhile just dropped two in a row to the Indiana Pacers but will get star rookie Paolo Banchero back from injury.

The Magic head into this contest as a 3.5-point home favorite, which is rare for them. They’re almost always an underdog. But with the return of Banchero and possibly Moe Wagner, it makes sense. They have moneyline odds of -158. Philly comes back at +134.
The 76ers are currently unbeaten in eight games against Orlando dating back to the 2019-20 season.

Sixers Trying to Get By
It’ll be difficult to find any team in the Association that has dealt with such bad injury luck as the 76ers. First, James Harden went down with a foot injury. Then it was Tyrese Maxey who went on the shelf. Lastly, Joel Embiid sustained a foot injury. To make matters worse, Matisse Thybulle is also out Friday, leaving Doc Rivers’ rotation anemic.
While Philly did beat the full-strength Brooklyn Nets earlier in the week with a bunch of role players starting, they couldn’t replicate that success in Charlotte. The Sixers shot just 24% from three-point land and got absolutely bodied inside, with the Hornets outscoring them 72-54.

The backcourt of De’Anthony Melton and Shake Milton combined for 42 points and 12 assists though and continue to thrive with more increased roles. The Magic aren’t phenomenal, but the return of two of their most important players will make this a difficult game. Tobias Harris also needs to step up and lead by example.
Magic Getting a Boost
Although Orlando is still a ways off contending, they have a real star in Banchero. He’s the clear-cut Rookie of the Year early on, averaging 23.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. The most impressive part? He’s shooting only 25% from deep, which means most of his damage is coming inside. The first overall pick has been out since November 7th though and will be fired up to get down to business Friday.
Wagner suffered a foot injury in preseason action and is yet to play in 2022-23. He’s a key part of the rotation and will provide this team with a boost. His brother Franz led the charge in Monday’s loss to the Pacers, dropping 20 points.

The Magic were outplayed in nearly every category however and it showed in the scoreline. There isn’t any better time for Orlando to end their brutal losing skid against Philadelphia. Plus, they come in well-rested.
76ers vs Magic Prediction
Banchero doesn’t play, I’m riding Philly. But with him wreaking havoc once again, I think he takes advantage of the injury-ridden Sixers and leads the Magic to a victory. Take the moneyline.
Pick: Magic moneyline (-158)
