The Boston Celtics (44-18, 20-11 home) seek their third win in a row when they host the Philadelphia 76ers (21-40, 10-19 away) Thursday night. The slumping Sixers are free falling in the East, dropping 11 of their last 12, and won’t have their star point guard on the floor. Even though Boston is playing the second half of a back-to-back, the books have them as massive favorites in the NBA odds. Action tips off from TD Garden in Boston at 7:300 pm ET, with TNT carrying the broadcast.

Philly won’t have star guard Tyrese Maxey (back) or Kyle Lowry (hip) in the lineup Thursday, while Paul George (groin) and Justin Edwards (ankle) are questionable. That’s on top of Joel Embiid (knee) already done for season.

Boston has injury woes of its own. Jayson Tatum (shoulder), Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday (finger) all sat out Wednesday’s 128-118 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Tatum is questionable, though he’s one of the few players listed in opening 76ers vs Celtics player props. Holiday and Porzingis are day-to-day.

Boston’s all-star duo of Tatum and Jaylen Brown hold the top two scoring props for Thursday, with Tatum’s line at 27.5 and Brown in at 22.5.

Brown took a back seat to Payton Pritchard (43 points) and Derrick White (41 points) going nuclear, finishing with 18 points, eight boards and eight dimes vs Portland.

His assist line of 3.5 looks particularly gettable, as he’s had four or more dimes in four of his last six outings.

Philly’s latest source of offense has been recent pickup Quentin Grimes, who’s tied with George for Philly’s highest scoring prop at 17.5.

Grimes is coming off a 30-point night in a loss to the Timberwolves, and just two games ago set the Golden State Warriors on fire with 44 points on 18-for-24 shooting.

Sixers vs Celtics Predictions

This is really a matchup of teams that don’t really want to be here.

Even if they’re just 2.5 games back of the Bulls for the 10th and final play-in berth, the 76ers have been in extended garbage time, and their lineup is in shambles. They were thumped 126-112 in Minnesota, the fourth time in seven games they’ve lost by double digits.

During their last 12 games, the 76ers are averaging a paltry 108.4 points per game, shooting 44.7% from the field and 31.4% from 3-point range. On the other end of the court, they are giving up a healthy 118.3 points per contest.

Boston would love nothing more than this slog of a regular season to end, to get back to the business of defending their chip.

They’ve won eight of 10, and while there are wins over the Nuggets and a pair over the Knicks, they also collapsed in a showdown with the Cavaliers and got thumped in Motown by the streaking Pistons.

There shouldn’t be much resistance here, though. One of their wins on this run was a 20-point thrashing of these 76ers. Overall, the Celts have rolled in this head-to-head, taking five of the last six, though they are just 3-3-0 against the spread.

Boston isn’t a great bet on the second night of a back-to-back, going 4-5-0 ATS, but the depleted (and defeated) Sixers are the worst cover team in the NBA with a rest advantage, going 4-10-0 ATS.

No matter who is in or out for Boston, the C’s showed Wednesday they’ve got depth beyond Tatum and Brown.

That should be enough to take a third straight against their division rival and win this season series.
