Kattar vs Chikadze Betting Preview & Pick
Calvin Kattar makes his return after taking a year off after he suffered a beatdown to Max Holloway last January, which also was the first card of the year. Giga Chikadze, meanwhile, had a very impressive 2021 and he looks like he may be a legit title challenger if he wins.
Kattar vs Chikadze Recent Fights
Max Holloway, loss by decision | Fight 1 | Edson Barboza, win by TKO |
Dan Ige, win by decision | Fight 2 | Cub Swanson, win by TKO |
Jeremy Stephens, win by KO | Fight 3 | Jamey Simmons, win by KO |
Zabit Magomedsharipov, loss by decision | Fight 4 | Omar Morales, win by decision |
Kattar vs. Chikadze is a phenomenal fight as Kattar is a great boxer with heavy hands, while Chikadze is arguably the best kickboxer at featherweight. Both men will want to keep it standing, although Kattar will want to get close to keep it in boxing range and not allow Chikadze to throw his kicks which are his best weapon.
Kattar vs Chikadze Stats
33 | Age | 33 |
5’11” | Height | 6’0″ |
72″ | Reach | 74″ |
4 | UFC Finishes | 3 |
Although Kattar is known as the boxer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him mix in the wrestling and takedowns as most fighters at featherweight will struggle with Chikadze if they make it a kickboxing fight. If Kattar can get some takedowns and tire out the Georgian, it would benefit him in the later rounds.
However, Chikadze has underrated takedown defense and grappling as he has been working with Beneil Dariush for years. I expect him to be able to keep ot standing and piece up Kattar. It should be a competitive fight as both men will land, but Chikadze will land more strikes and the harder strikes and will either get a decision or a later finish. Chikadze’s moneyline is a bit too high for me to play straight, but he could be put in a parlay with another fighter above -200.
Pick: Giga Chikadze (-240)
Chookagian Favored in UFC Vegas 46 Odds
Katlyn Chookagian and Jennifer Maia fought back at UFC 244 in November of 2019 where Chookagian won a decision, and now they are running it back as both women look to get back into title contention.
Chookagian & Maia Recent Fights
Viviane Araujo, win by decision | Fight 1 | Jessica Eye, win by decision |
Cynthia Calvillo, win by decision | Fight 2 | Valentina Shevchenko, loss by decision (title fight) |
Jessica Andrade, loss by TKO | Fight 3 | Joanne Wood, win by submission |
Antonina Shevchenko, win by TKO | Fight 4 | Katlyn Chookagian, loss by decision |
Both Chookagian and Maia have recently lost to Valentina Shevchenko for the belt as Chookagian lost to her just five fights ago, so the rematch does make sense as both are out of the title picture.
However, I don’t expect the rematch to be any different as Chookagian should be able to keep the fight standing as Maia will look to wrestle and take Chookagian down. On the feet, the American is just too technical for Maia as she will be able to outpoint her and win another clear-cut decision. A parlay of Chookagian and Chikadze at +121 is a solid bet for UFC Vegas 46.
Pick: Katlyn Chookagian (-180)
Other UFC Vegas 46 Picks:
- Brandon Royval (-177): Royval is the better all-around fighter, but I expect him to keep it standing and piece up Bontorin to win a decision.
- Chase Sherman (+100): This is a low-level heavyweight fight as both Sherman and Collier don’t throw much volume, but I think Sherman’s power will be the difference here as he’ll edge out a decision.
- Joanderson Brito (-125): Brito is very dynamic and is very similar to Algeo but is just better in those areas as I like him to get the win in his UFC debut.
