Who Gets Back Into The Win Column?
Jairzinho Rozenstruik had a lackluster main event fight back in February as he lost a decision to Ciryl Gane where he barely threw anything. Augusto Sakai, meanwhile, is coming off of his first UFC main event back in September and suffered a fifth-round TKO loss to Alistair Overeem.
Rozenstruik & Sakai Recent Fights
Ciryl Gane, loss by decision | Fight 1 | Alistair Overeem, loss by TKO |
Junior dos Santos, win by TKO | Fight 2 | Blagoy Ivanov, win by split decision |
Francis Ngannou, loss by KO | Fight 3 | Marcin Tybura, win by TKO |
Alistair Overeem, win by TKO | Fight 4 | Andrei Arlovski, win by split decision |
This is a really intriguing matchup as Rozenstruik is the better kickboxer and has legit one-punch KO power. Sakai, meanwhile, likely has the wrestling and grappling advantage and could very well make this is a boring fight by clinching Rozenstruik against the cage and wearing him out.
Both men have very similar frames, with Rozenstruik only being an inch taller and have an inch reach advantage. However, in terms of skill set, if Rozenstruik can keep this fight standing, it will be his fight to lose and it likely won’t take him too long to get the job done.
Rozenstruik & Sakai Stats
33 | Age | 29 |
5’8″ | Height | 5’8″ |
71.5″ | Reach | 65.5″ |
6 | UFC finishes | 5 |
Ultimately, I do like Rozenstruik to win this fight, and I actually think he should be a bigger favorite. In Sakai’s UFC tenure, the problem the Brazilian has is he gets hit a lot. He absorbs 4.02 significant strikes per minute, and Rozenstruik is such a technical kickboxer that he should be able to piece up the Brazilian.
I also question Sakai’s gas tank as he started to fade against Overeem, and we saw Rozenstruik KO Overeem in the final seconds of a 25-minute fight proving his power lasts the entire scrap. Ultimately, I think Sakai will have a good first round but in the second, Rozenstruik will start bringing it on and get the TKO win. At -130 in the UFC Vegas 28 odds, Rozenstruik offers good value.
Pick: Jairzinho Rozenstruik (-130)
Will Tybura Extend His Winning Streak?
Walt Harris could be fighting for his UFC job on Saturday night while Marcin Tybura had an incredible 2020 that not many saw coming as he went 4-0 after losing both his fights in 2019 by KO.
Harris & Tybura Recent Fights
Alexander Volkov, loss by TKO | Fight 1 | Greg Hardy, win by TKO |
Alistair Overeem, loss by TKO | Fight 2 | Ben Rothwell, win by decision |
Alexey Oleynik, win by KO | Fight 3 | Maxim Grishin, win by decision |
Sergey Spivak, win by TKO | Fight 4 | Sergey Spivak, win by decision |
Harris had a tragic 2019 and 2020 as his stepdaughter was kidnapped and eventually found murdered. Despite that, he kept on fighting and lost to Alistair Overeem in an emotional fight and to Alexander Volkov. However, he gets a much-needed step down in competition against Marcin Tybura.
Although Harris is getting a step down in competition, I still don’t like the matchup for Harris. Although the American is ranked eighth I do think he is a bit overrated as he’s just 6-8 and one no contest in the UFC and when he faces fighters that belong in the top-15 he loses. His cardio is also a major concern as if he can’t KO Tybura in the first he loses this fight.
Ultimately, I expect Tybura to use his wrestling and clinch work to wear on Harris and either get a third-round TKO or clear-cut decision.
Pick: Marcin Tybura (-177)
Other UFC Vegas 28 Picks:
- Roman Dolidze (-150): Dolidze will be much bigger and stronger and should be able to use that size to grapple with Staropoli and win a decision.
- Miguel Baeza (-125): Ponzinibbio looked like a future title contender but after time off due to injuries he wasn’t the same and got KO’d in January. Baeza will be too fast and explosive for him and likely get a KO win.
- Dusko Todorovic (-150): Todorovic should use his wrestling to take Rodrigues down and get a TKO ground and pound win.
- Tom Breese (-250): Breese should be able to run through Arroyo and likely find the finish on the feet.
