Cannonier vs Rodrigues Prediction

Explosive middleweights Jared Cannonier and Gregory Rodrigues headline UFC Fight Night 251.

A veteran of 18 UFC bouts, Cannonier knows his way around the Octagon. Victories over the great Anderson Silva, Derek Brunson and Sean Strickland have boosted “Killa Gorilla’s” stock. Unfortunately, the now 40-year-old has dropped back-to-back fights and desperately needs a win.

Meanwhile, Rodrigues has been on a tear, winning five of his last six bouts with four knockouts. The Brazilian’s an impressive 7-2 in his UFC career, with crisp boxing, explosive power and a strong jiu-jitsu game, making him a dangerous opponent. Rodrigues has the kind of power that can end the fight at any moment.

Cannonier’s ability to dictate the tempo of this fight will be his key to victory. If he can keep proceedings standing and pick his shots, his experience in the cage could shine through. However, if Rodrigues can close the distance and find his shots, this bout could be over quickly. In the end, Rodrigues youth, power and grappling edge make him the favorite. Cannonier still has knockout power, but at 40, defeating Rodrigues will be an uphill climb.

Pick: Rodrigues to win (-225)

Kattar vs Zalal Prediction

In the co-main event, UFC veteran Calvin Kattar takes on rising featherweight Youssef Zalal.

Kattar enters his 14th UFC bout with a record of 7-6 in the Octagon, having dropped three straight contests. A talented boxer with a magnificent knockout win over Jeremy Stephens, injuries and inactivity have taken their toll on the 36-year-old. The Massachusetts native has lost three straight, and suffered a devastating knee injury against Arnold Allen in 2022.

On the flip side of the cage, Zalal has been on a steady climb through the featherweight rankings. The 28-year-old is known for his fight IQ, and movement. “The Moroccan Devil” isn’t the most powerful striker, but his speed and sheer volume of punches create problems for opponents.

Kattar will undoubtedly be throwing his patented power punches in the UFC Fight Night co-main event. However, Zalal is likely to push the pace and force Kattar to defend. If the veteran doesn’t have his dancing shoes ready, he’ll struggle against Zalal’s relentless attack. This fight feels like another passing of the torch. Zalal’s speed, precision striking and volume make him the smart bet.

Pick: Zalal to win (-410)
