The UFC is heading to Sunrise, Florida for an intriguing middleweight matchup in the main event. Originally, Yoel Romero was supposed to take on Paulo Costa before Costa withdrew. Then, Jacare Souza stepped into rematch Romero before Romeo had to pull out leaving Jack Hermansson to step in on the short notice. In the co-main event, Greg Hardy returns to take on Dmitrii Smoliakov.
The main card airs live at ESPN+ starting at 9:00 p.m. ET, with the prelims on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. ET, and the early prelims on ESPN2 at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Fight Record and Recent History
Souza (26-6 and one no-contest) is coming off of a very impressive knockout win over former champion, Chris Weidman. Following the win, Souza was calling for a title shot but was told if he wins this he gets a title shot. Before the Weidman fight, he lost to Kelvin Gastelum, beat Derek Brunson, and then lost to the current champion, Robert Whittaker. However, Souza does hold impressive wins over the likes of Gegard Mousasi, Robbie Lawler, Vitor Belfort, and Tim Boetsch.

Hermansson (19-4) is currently riding a three-fight winning streak and is coming off of a very impressive submission win over David Branch at the end of March.
Hermansson is currently riding a three-fight winning streak.
It is a very quick turnaround for Hermansson, but he didn’t take any damage against Branch. During this winning streak, Hermansson beat Gerald Meerschaert by submission and Thales Leites by TKO. He also holds notable wins over Ion Pascu and Brad Scott, among others.

This should be a very interesting fight as both Souza and Hermansson have very good ground games where either can pull off a submission from their back. Souza may have a slight advantage on the ground, but Hermansson is no joke and it should be interesting if either can get the fight to the ground or if they even want it to go to the ground.

Ultimately, I believe this fight will be very similar to the Weidman-Souza fight where both have phenomenal ground games and it became a striking battle for the entire fight. Although many are counting out Hermansson out in this one, I think he is the real deal and I like the ‘dog money on him. I think Hermansson will shock many and finish Jacare.
Pick: Jack Hermansson (+155)
Greg Hardy vs Dmitrii Smoliakov Odds
Fighter | Odds | Odds |
---|---|---|
Greg Hardy | -275 | -270 |
Dmitrii Smoliakov | +215 | +230 |
Fight Record and Recent History
Hardy (3-1) made his highly anticipated UFC debut in the co-main event of UFC Brooklyn in January. The former NFL star went 3-0 on the regional scenes/Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series with three quick knockouts. But, in his UFC debut, he was taking on Allen Crowder where the two had success in the fight until Hardy landed an illegal knee which ended the fight and gave Hardy his first pro loss.
There is no way the UFC can let Hardy lose two in a row.
Smoliakov (9-2) is back in the UFC after losing two in a row and getting cut by the promotion. After getting cut he went to Asian Challenge and got a submission win. But, there is no question Smoliakov is being brought back to lose this fight as there is no way the UFC can let Hardy lose two in a row.

Hardy will have a big reach advantage and will need to use it in this fight. Smoliakov is a freestyle wrestler who has a solid submission game and if he can get the fight to the ground he could very well submit Hardy. However, Hardy has shown he has knockout power and will catch Smoliakov early and knock him out.
Pick: Hardy (-275)
