The UFC heads to Whicita, Kansas on Saturday, March 9th. In the main event, it will be an important heavyweight fight where the winner could be a win or two away from a title shot. In that main event, Derrick Lewis will be taking on Junior dos Santos. The main card is live on ESPN+ and starts at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Fight Record and Recent History
Derrick Lewis (21-6 and one no-contest) is set to return to the Octagon after his November title shot against Daniel Cormier. There, Comrier simply took Lewis down at will and ended up submitting him for the finish. Prior to the title shot, Lewis had an incredible comeback knockout win over Alexander Volkov at UFC 229. He also holds a decision win over Francis Ngannou at UFC 226 which may go down as one of the worst heavyweight fights ever.

Junior dos Santos (20-5), meanwhile, is riding a two-fight winning streak after losing to Stipe Miocic for the belt at UFC 211. His winning streak has included wins over the likes of Blagoy Ivanov and Tai Tuivasa. The veteran is also a former UFC heavyweight champion and has notable wins over the likes of Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir among others.

The oddsmakers have dos Santos as a bigger favorite than I expected. Lewis has shown the ability to knock anybody out, and his Kryptonite is wrestling. However, I don’t see dos Santos taking this fight to the ground, but dos Santos does have the edge in speed when it comes to striking.
Ultimately, it is heavyweight MMA where anything can happen, but in the end I see dos Santos getting his hand raised come Saturday night.
Pick: Junior dos Santos (-240)
Elizeu Zaleski vs Curtis Millender Odds
Fighter | Elizeu Zaleski vs Curtis Millender Odds |
---|---|
Elizeu Zaleski | -120 |
Curits Millender | -110 |
Fight Record and Recent History
Elizeu Zaleski (20-5) is currently riding a very impressive six-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Lyman Good, Max Griffin, and others. Zaleski is currently ranked 13th in the welterweight division and will need a win over Millender to keep that ranking. If he does indeed get a win, a step up in competition makes sense for the Zaleski.
Elizeu Zaleski is currently riding a very impressive six-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Lyman Good, Max Griffin, and others.

Curtis Millender, (17-3) meanwhile, is riding a nine-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Max Griffin, Kevin Holland, and Thiago Alves, among others. Now, he gets a step up in competition when he takes on Zaleski.

This fight is a rather interesting one. Both fighters, although they are in their 30’s are intriguing prospects in the welterweight division. With this fight it will really tell which fighter gets the push.
Zaleski and Millender have beat similar opponents in similar fashions, so it is hard to tell who is the better fighter. Their striking is rather similar and both have shown they have the cardio to fight at a high pace for all three rounds. The fight is the co-main event for a reason as it should be a great fight.
Ultimately, the oddsmakers have this pretty much a pick ’em for a reason. This fight will be a close one in which I see it going to a decision and Curtis Millender getting his hand raised in a close win.
Pick: Curtis Millender (-110)
