Combate Americas returns this Friday, for Combate Americas 49 in San Antonio, Texas.
The main card features prospect, Andre Barquero Morera making his promotional debut, plus longtime veteran, Ray Rodriguez, and Melissa Cervantes making her professional debut.
Andre Barquero Morera vs. Eduardo Alvarado Osuna Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Andre Barquero Morera | +120 |
Eduardo Alvarado Osuna | -150 |
All odds taken Nov. 6
Andre Barquero Morera is taking this fight on very short notice after Eduardo Alvarado Osuna’s opponent withdrew. That is why this bout is also a 140-pound catchweight.
In this fight, Morera will look to get it down to the ground and try and submit Osuna, while Osuna will want to keep it standing. Morera has four wins by submission and doing so against solid opponents, where he has been fighting in Pancrase, and CFFC among others. Osuna, meanwhile, has been in Combate Americas since 2018 and has a big win over Roman Salazar and Andy Perez.

In the end, I believe Osuna will be able to keep it standing for the most part and edges out a decision win.
Pick: Eduardo Alvarado Osuna (-150)
Melissa Cervantes vs. Nadine Mandiau Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Melissa Cervantes | -175 |
Nadine Mandiau | +145 |
Melissa Cervantes makes her highly anticipated professional debut.
She is a former professional wrestler in Lucha Underground and the NWA where she has competed under the name Thunder Rosa. In MMA, she will have the star power in Combate Americas, and this is a very winnable fight against the 0-1 in Mandiau. She lost her debut by submission and was 4-1 as an amateur, but I think the wrestling and ground game of Cervantes will be too much as she will win by submission.
Pick: Melissa Cervantes (-175)
Oscar Suarez vs. Chris Cortez Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Oscar Suarez | +170 |
Chris Cortez | -210 |
Both fighters are looking to get back into the win column after disappointing performances last time out.
Suarez is on a two-fight losing streak and is 4-3 as a pro. Cortez, meanwhile, is 2-1 and was knocked out last time out and has not fought since October of last year.
In this fight, Cortez needs to keep it standing as he is the better striker, while Suarez should have the ground advantage. Yet, I think Coretz’s striking will be too much as he will win by TKO in the second or third round.
Pick: Cris Cortez (-210)
Ray Rodriguez vs. Andy Perez Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Ray Rodriguez | -325 |
Andy Perez | +250 |
This is a complete and utter mismatch of matchmaking.
Ray Rodriguez is one of the top prospects in the sport and is coming off of a very competitive fight on the Contender Series against Tony Gravely where he lost the bout. He was so close to earning a UFC contract and is now taking on a 7-10 Andy Perez who is on a three-fight losing streak.

This will not be a competitive fight at all and Rodriguez is the better fighter in all aspects of the game and should finish the fight. He really should be higher than -325 so there is a ton of value on him.
Pick: Ray Rodriguez (-325)Â
Justin Governale vs. Peter Caballero Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Justin Governale | +135 |
Peter Caballero | -165 |
This is a very good and close fight to open the main card.
Governale is 7-6 as a pro and riding a two-fight winning streak, while Caballero is 6-4 and coming off of a decision loss. On this winning streak, Governale snapped his four-fight losing streak and is set to make his promotional debut. He has been fighting in Bellator and King of the Cage. Caballero, meanwhile, is also set for his promotional debut.
In this fight, they are very similar fighters where they have a good ground game and average striking. But, I think the underdog in Governale is the better fighter overall and win this fight.
Pick: Justin Governale (+135)
