Tuesday evening brings some more American League Central baseball as the Chicago White Sox (19-30, 7-17 away) and Cleveland Guardians (21-26, 10-12 home) continue their three-game series at Progressive Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:10 PM ET.
Cleveland took the opener 3-0 on Monday and will send Logan Allen to the mound here. The Sox counter with Dylan Cease, who is struggling early on.

Chicago vs Cleveland Probable Pitchers
After a Cy Young-caliber campaign in 2022, Cease has fallen back down to earth. He’s 2-3 with a 4.79 ERA in 10 starts and control has been an issue. Cease has walked 22 batters in 52.2 innings but has struck out 57.

The last two starts for the righty have been a mile better, though. He held the Astros scoreless across six frames on May 13th and then actually faced the Guardians on May 18th, limiting them to three earned in 6.1 innings. Improvement.
Cease vs Allen Stats
2-3 | Record | 1-1 |
4.79 | ERA | 3.04 |
52.2 | Innings Pitched | 26.2 |
57 | Strikeouts | 29 |
22 | Walks | 8 |
Allen is enjoying a solid campaign for the Guardians. In five starts, he owns a 3.04 ERA, striking out 29 in 26.2 innings and walking just eight. His WHIP also sits at 1.46.
The left-hander even faced the White Sox in his most recent outing, containing their lineup to one run in 5.2 innings of work.
White Sox Are Struggling
No one thought Chicago would be this bad in 2023 but unfortunately, it’s been a nightmare for them. Pedro Grifol’s squad is 11 games below .500 and basically struggles in every category imaginable.
Their offensive woes were on full display Monday as the Guardians’ arms held the White Sox scoreless on just three hits. It wasted a solid effort from Chicago’s staff, who also gave up only three runs on four hits, but one was a home run that proved to be costly.
Guardians End Skid
Cleveland finally put to bed their three-game losing streak Monday with a victory but they’re still just 4-6 in their last 10. Thankfully the AL Central is wide open at the moment, therefore the Guardians still have every opportunity to turn things around.

Hunter Gaddis threw a gem in the opener, tossing six scoreless and surrendering a mere two hits. At the dish, Cleveland didn’t do a whole lot but Mike Zunino’s two-run bomb was just enough offense to get his team a much-needed win. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that the Guardians have one of the worst MLB lineups around, slashing .228.

White Sox vs Guardians Prediction
With two guys on the hill who are throwing the ball well against a pair of offenses who aren’t exactly consistent, I’m taking the under here.
Pick: Under 8 runs (-105)
