The Colorado Rockies (20-24) face the Washington Nationals (16-30) on Friday at Nationals Park. The second game of the four-game series has a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 pm ET. The Rockies will send Austin Gomber to the hill, while the home team counters with Aaron Sanchez.
The home team is a slight favorite — even though the Nats are +40000 longshots to win the NL East. Meantime, the Rockies have +15000 odds to win the NL West. Black’s team is expected to win 69.5 games, while Washington is projected to win 70.5 in the MLB win totals.

Colorado vs Washington Probable Pitchers
Gomber — who was acquired by Colorado in the Nolen Arenado trade prior to the start of the 2021 season — is coming off arguably his strongest outing of 2022. He allowed only two runs in seven innings to the Mets on Sunday in a 2-0 loss. His fastball had good life to it, especially inside to right-handed pitchers, and his changeup was also strong.
Austin Gomber- the only ML ready guy in the Nolan Arenado deal- has pitched to a draw with Taijuan Walker but has given up a run when Nimmo hits a single thats misplayed by Grichuk allowing Nimmo to go all the way to 3rd. Lindor hits it thru the drawn in IF to make it 1-0 Mets

The Rockies are 3-5 in games the 28-year-old has started this season and the lefty has posted quality outings in four of his last five turns — including the one against the Amazins.
Meantime, the Nationals are 3-3 in Sanchez’s six starts this season. The 29-year-old has yet to post a quality outing coming into Friday’s appearance, but is coming off his best performance of the year. The former first-rounder went five innings at Milwaukee, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and a pair of walks while striking out one Brewer in an eventual 8-2 victory.
Austin Gomber vs Aaron Sanchez

4.11 | ERA | 7.16 |
4.62 | xERA | 5.23 |
18.7% | K% | 10.7% |
Following a 12-9 April that gave fans in Denver hope, the Rockies have had a rough May — sporting an 8-15 record entering Friday’s tilt. CJ Cron has been Colorado’s best player offensively, owning a .308/.355/.587 slash line and leading the club with 12 homers and 33 RBI. As the team continues its East Coast road trip, the 32-year-old continues to struggle away from Coors Field.

Meantime, the Nationals went 2-4 against the division-leading Brewers and Dodgers prior to Thursday’s 7-3 victory against the Rockies — which qualifies an offensive explosion for the NL East cellar dwellers. The biggest issue plaguing Martinez’s club over the last week has been lack of offense.
Washington has scored just 22 runs over its last seven games (including an 8-2 victory over Milwaukee on Sunday). Juan Soto, who finished 2nd in NL MVP balloting last season, leads the team with eight big flies — but is hitting only .232.
Soto’s agent Scott Boras, says the budding superstar won’t be traded this season. But the 23-year-old’s name has been bandied about in various reports in the last couple weeks — and it’s possible it’s affecting him.
The Nats currently have +40000 odds to win the Fall Classic, while the Rockies are at +25000 in the World Series odds.

Rockies vs Nationals Prediction
Colorado has taken six of the last ten matchups between these two last-place squads. Washington has the momentum entering Friday’s game by virtue of their victory on Thursday that saw César Hernández go 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs.
But the home team is just 7-17 at Nationals Park and Gomber has been better this season than Sanchez. I’ll take the Rockies in a bounce-back spot.
