The Rockies (58-69) have won six of nine but are 15-47 on the road this season, the .242 winning percentage being the worst in the major leagues.

Probable Pitchers

The Rockies will start left-hander Kyle Freeland (4-6, 4.25). The Dodgers will counter with a bullpen game, though rookie right-hander Andre Jackson (0-0, 0.00) could be called up from the minor leagues to start or follow an opener.

Freeland will be making his final start of a fine August in which he has a 3-0 record and 3.52 ERA in four turns. He is 4-4 with a 2.53 ERA in 11 starts since June 22 and has the sixth-lowest ERA in MLB during that span.

Freeland vs Jackson

Andre Jackson
4-6 Record 0-0
4.25 ERA 0.00
3.97 xERA 4.53
1.38 WHIP 1.50
3.17 SO/W 1.25

Freeland has posted back-to-back quality starts, giving him seven for the season in 16 games. He had a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday in Denver when he worked seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

However, that wasn’t his last action. He pinch hit and stayed in the game as the right fielder after pinch-hitting in the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Cubs at Chicago.

Freeland has a 1-4 record and 4.07 ERA in eight road starts and is 2-6 with a 3.76 ERA in 12 starts at night. The Rockies are 8-8 when he pitches.

This season, Freeland has lost both starts against the Dodgers despite having allowed just four runs in 13 innings for a 2.77 ERA. He has a 2-7 career record versus the Dodgers with a 4.14 ERA in 14 starts and is 0-3 in seven starts at Dodger Stadium despite a solid 3.55 ERA.

Jackson made his MLB debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 16 and pitched four scoreless innings in relief of an opener.

The 25-year-old then was sent back to the minor leagues and pitched for low-A Rancho Cucamonga last Saturday. He allowed one run in 5.2 innings in a no-decision against San Jose, giving up four hits, striking out five and walking one.

Jackson is 5-2 with a 3.16 ERA this season in the minors in a combined 17 games (14 starts) with Rancho Cucamonga, Triple-A Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa.

Pollock Shining in Second Half

Dodgers left fielder AJ Pollock is hitting .356 with 11 doubles, one home run and four RBIs in 35 games since the All-Star break. He also hits Freeland well, going 10 for 28 (.357) with one double, one triple and two homers.

Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers

Dodgers Batters Batting Average vs Freeland
Corey Seager .563
Justin Turner .371
AJ Pollock .357
Cody Bellinger .357

Chris Taylor .273
Mookie Betts .273
Albert Pujols .273
Trea Turner .250
Max Muncy .214
Austin Barnes .100
Will Smith .000

NOTE: No Rockies batters have faced Jackson.

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager has gone 9 for 16 (.563) against Jackson with a double and a homer.

Second baseman Trea Turner has sparked the Dodgers from the leadoff spot, going 15-3 since acquiring him from the Washington Nationals in a trade. In a Los Angeles uniform, Turner is hitting .306 with 15 runs scored in 18 games.

Dodgers’ first baseman Max Muncy’s status for Friday is uncertain after he sat out Thursday night’s 4-0 win over the Padres because of back tightness. Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is also questionable as he left the second game of Wednesday’s twin bill with what manager Bud Black called leg soreness.

Rockies first baseman CJ Cron is having a big August with a .392 batting average and eight home runs in 21 games. Left fielder Connor Joe has hit .320 with eight homers in 29 games since being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on July 20.

Rockies vs Dodgers Pick

The Dodgers have won 10 of 13 meetings with the Rockies this season, including five of six in Los Angeles. Seager has led the way by hitting .550 (11 for 20) with four doubles and one homer while Betts is batting .452 (14 for 31) with six doubles and two home runs.

Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon has hit .310 (13 for 42) versus the Dodgers in 2021 with five doubles and two homers.

The Dodgers hold a commanding 45-17 advantage in the series since the beginning of the 2018 season. Look for them to beat the Rockies again, even if Los Angeles is going to need multiple pitchers to do so.

The Pick: Dodgers -235
