The Baltimore Orioles will be putting a perfect MLB postseason record against the Texas Rangers on the line as the two teams meet in Game 1 of their ALDS. The only prior playoff clash between these two clubs saw Baltimore beat Texas 5-1 in the 2012 AL Wild Card game.
During regular-season play, each team won three of six games. Interestingly, both were 2-1 straight up at the other’s ballpark. Baltimore was 49-32 at home this season, while Texas posted a winning 42-41 mark on the road.
Oddsmakers are setting the Orioles are -142 favorites for Game 1. Baltimore’s 96-66 record against the runline this season was the best in the American League.

Orioles Bradish a Second-Half Sensation
Getting the start in Saturday’s MLB lineups, Orioles right-hander Kyle Bradish set career highs in just about every statistical category this season. When Bradish took the mound Aug 1 at Toronto, he was 6-6 on the season.
Kyle Bradish, 2022 vs. 2023:
ERA: 4.90 ➡️ 2.83
WHIP: 1.40 ➡️ 1.04
BAA: .265 ➡️ .215
K/9: 8.5 ➡️ 9.0
BB/9: 3.5 ➡️ 2.3 pic.twitter.com/W7ESc0iy3r— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) October 6, 2023
Over 11 starts since, he’s gone 6-1, worked at least six innings in all but two appearances and allowing two earned runs or fewer in nine of those starts. Bradish is entering the postseason riding a shutout streak of 16.1 innings.
The righty faced the Rangers twice this season. He didn’t figure in either decision, posting a 1.08 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over 8.1 innings of work. Bradish was 5-4 with a 2.23 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 13 home starts in 2023. Bradish’s wOBA of .268 rated among the top 9% of MLB hurlers.
Andrew Heaney vs Kyle Bradish
10-6 | Record | 12-7 |
4.15 | ERA | 2.83 |
4.51 | xERA | 3.82 |

2.52 | SO/W | 3.82 |
The Rangers are countering with veteran left-hander Andrew Heaney. Though the southpaw has been in the show since 2014, this will be his first postseason start. In his first year with the Rangers, Heaney posted a career-best .625 winning percentage.

It will be Heaney’s second start in a row, but also only his second start in his last eight trips to the mound. He was dropped from the rotation in early September. That being said, Heaney has won his past four decisions, including the last three from starting assignments. But he hasn’t worked as many as five innings in a single appearance since Aug 29. Heaney is riding a current shutout streak of nine innings.
Facing the Orioles in a pair of starts this season, Heaney was 1-1 with a 7.45 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. He was 5-0 with a 3.38 ERA in the second half of the season, covering 17 appearances, 11 of them starts.
Texas Rangers vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction
Baltimore is 9-3 SU through the past 12 games against Texas and 4-2 SU in the last six facing the Rangers at Camden Yards. In fact, the Orioles have won 10 of their last 11 games when up against an AL West opponent.
