Philadelphia vs San Diego Team Stats
The Phillies barely even made the playoffs, clinching as a sixth seed in the NL. Yet, they’ve now taken out the Cardinals and Braves. Absolutely no one could’ve predicted Philadelphia would beat the reigning champions but it happened in epic fashion. The best part? It was in front of their home fans, who waited over a decade for postseason baseball at Citizens Bank Park again. The Phils absolutely raked in the NLDS, hitting .271 as a group. But, no one was as clutch as Bryce Harper, who shined on the big stage.

The veteran hit .500 (7 for 14), slugging two homers and also raking three doubles. Harper couldn’t be stopped, coming up with big hit after big hit. He also had five RBI. Nick Castellanos proved why the Phils brought him in last winter as well, slashing .313 with numerous timely moments at the dish. On the bump, the likes of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez, and Noah Syndergaard all gave their team a chance in essentially every game.
The staff as a whole owns a 2.55 ERA in the playoffs, with the bullpen holding it down in the late innings, too. This Philadelphia squad is riding a high right now and after beating two very good teams, they’ll be brimming with confidence. Wheeler will likely be the Game 1 starter in the NLCS.
The Padres win, 5-3. They won three straight NLDS games, the last one in epic, come-from-behind fashion, and have slayed the dragon up the freeway. They’ll have home-field advantage in the unlikeliest of CS matchups vs the Phillies. The Dodgers and their 111-win season are done.

San Diego truly pulled off the unthinkable, sending home the Dodgers, a team who dominated them all season long and has done so for years. The Padres had to dig deep in Game 4 at Petco Park, putting up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to ultimately win 5-3. Bob Melvin’s group only batted .239 as a lineup in the NLDS, but there were countless hits that were pivotal.

In fact, they scored just 15 runs in the four games, making every single hit count. Trent Grisham was one of the leading catalysts, hitting .303 in the NLDS and .381 overall in the playoffs to this point.
On the mound, the entire staff was phenomenal against a very good LA offense, surrendering just 11 earned in four games, and pitching to a 2.83 ERA. Josh Hader is also finding his groove again, which is a scary sight for the Phillies. San Diego’s World Series odds are the second-shortest of any club left at +325, behind only the Astros.

Phillies vs Padres Series Prediction
In a seven-game series, it comes down to pitching depth. Both teams have it, but in my opinion, the Padres hold the edge with go-to guys like Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, and Blake Snell. Plus, all three are experienced at this stage. I expect this to be a long series with a lot of good pitching. In the end, though, San Diego will advance past the Phillies.
