- The Philadelphia Phillies won the MLB offseason, but have struggled since going 12-12
- Their odds to make the playoffs went from -130 to -110 in less than a month since the Bryce Harper deal
- Are they still a good pick to make the playoffs?
Any way you slice it, the Philadelphia Phillies are one of the powerhouse teams of 2019 on paper. On the field, however, things have looked a little different thanks to their middling .500 record in Spring Training.

Philadelphia Loaded Up in the Offseason
Are the Phillies overhyped? Can too much talent be a negative?
We’ve seen hyped-up clubs and players fail before, but this year feels different for Philly. While it could be easy to look at their record, their projection, Bryce Harper’s contract, or his very own home run prop projections, we need to look deeper.
We need to look at the smaller additions. Former NL hits leader Jean Segura is a good start. His experience should not only help at the plate, but at short as well. Let’s also toss in former All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutcheon, along with reigning All-Star and Silver Slugger JT Realmuto and his powerful bat.

Everyone seems to be forgetting about the rest of Philadelphia’s offseason because of the number of zeroes on Bryce Harper’s paycheck. This team has been built to murder baseballs all year long and should have little difficulty shaking off its early Spring Training jitters.
Is There Value in Philly?
After landing the biggest free agent name in years, the Phillies’ average playoff odds went from -130 on February 28th to -110 on March 22nd across a number of top online sportsbooks. Sure, there was a dip, but should it be enough to scare you off? Absolutely not. In fact, it should act as more of an incentive than anything else.

According to FanGraphs, the Phillies are projected to secure a wild card berth this season with 86 wins. They’re also showing far more favorable odds than the Dodgers and are right on the heals of the Cardinals and Cubs. With the power and durability on this team, we all know they’re geared for a postseason run as early as now, so what are you waiting for?
