The M’s will be hoping lefty Marco Gonzales can give them a quality start here on the mound, while the Tigers counter with Matthew Boyd.

Seattle vs Detroit Probable Pitchers
Gonzales is off to a respectable start this season for the Mariners, going 2-0 in six starts with a 4.70 ERA. He’s struck out 23 batters while issuing 11 free passes. The southpaw likes to pitch to contact considering he doesn’t have a big fastball by any means.

The 31-year-old took the no-decision in his last outing but managed to keep his team in it, holding the defending champion Houston Astros to three runs across six innings. Gonzales owns a 3.89 ERA against the Tigers in seven career appearances.
Gonzales vs Boyd Stats
2-0 | Record | 2-2 |
4.70 | ERA | 5.28 |
30.2 | Innings Pitched | 30.2 |
23 | Strikeouts | 28 |
11 | Walks | 11 |
Boyd is struggling early on for the lowly Tigers. He’s compiled a dismal 5.28 ERA to go along with a 2-2 record and 1.34 WHIP, striking out 28 in 30.3 innings. Boyd has also surrendered 11 walks. The long ball has proven to be a problem, giving up five of them in six starts.
That being said, Boyd is coming off a respectable outing in St. Louis, limiting the Cardinals to three runs in six innings. Basically, a carbon copy line to Gonzales’ most recent start, too. Although Boyd has a 3.52 ERA against his former team in Seattle, the 32-year-old’s ERA skyrockets to over six at Comerica Park in 23′.

Long Road Trip Ahead for Seattle
Seattle is starting to improve as of late, going 7-3 in their last 10 games. This lengthy road trip however should be a very good test for them. After three games in Motown, the M’s head to Boston for three before another series in Georgia against the high-flying Atlanta Braves. They won’t be back home until May 22nd.

Before a day off Thursday, the Mariners lost the series finale Wednesday against the Texas Rangers by a score of 4-3. Luis Castillo was solid in five innings, but he got minimal run support. Seattle’s lineup had just seven hits. Nevertheless, the M’s still have the second-best AL West odds.
Tigers Turning it Around?
It’s common knowledge the Tigers aren’t good. They’re at the bottom of the league in nearly every notable category. That being said, Detroit is on a bit of a roll right now, winning four of the last six. That includes series wins over the Cardinals and Guardians.
Eduardo Rodriguez proved once again why he’s the ace of this rotation on Wednesday, tossing seven scoreless innings in a 5-0 victory over Cleveland. Offensively, Javier Baez, Zach McKinstry, and Andy Ibanez all had two hits apiece. The Tigers certainly have some confidence at the moment.
Mariners vs Tigers Prediction
Three of the last four meetings have been decided by just one run. I have enough confidence in Detroit to keep it close or win altogether. Take the Tigers runline.
Pick: Tigers runline +1.5 (-162)
