  • The Los Angeles Dodgers (51-31) visit the San Francisco Giants (39-43) on Friday night to start a 3-game weekend series between the heated NL West rivals.
  • Landon Knack (1-1, 2.10 ERA) takes the mound for the Dodgers, while Logan Webb (6-6, 3.19 ERA) gets the start for the Giants.
  • Check out the section below for our favorite picks from Friday night’s rivalry game.

The Dodgers and Giants renew their longtime rivalry on Friday night with the start of a 3-game weekend series. The Dodgers hold an 8.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West. The Giants are in 4th place in the division, 12 games behind Los Angeles. Friday night’s game is set to start at 10:15 p.m. ET and can be seen on regional broadcast networks and MLB.tv.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Picks

  • Over 7.5 runs scored (-105)
  • Freddie Freeman over 1.5 total bases (+115)

This game could go either way. The Dodgers have some hitters who have had success against Logan Webb, while Landon Knack is such a wild card due to his limited work at the big-league level. I’m not sure who will win this game, but I do think there will be plenty of runs scored. I’m taking the over on 7.5 runs scored, which you can find for -105 odds at BetMGM.

As for player props, I love Freddie Freeman in tonight’s NL West showdown. He’s absolutely crushed Webb in his career. In 31 at-bats, he has 14 hits, good for a .452 average. He has 1 home run, 3 doubles and 5 RBI against the San Francisco hurler. For those keeping score at home, that’s pretty good.

The fact that his odds to post 2+ bases tonight are at +115 seems like a mistake. I think Freeman gets off to a good start against Webb before also putting together some solid at-bats late against the San Francisco bullpen.

It’s not often you’ll find the Dodgers with the same or worse moneyline odds as their opponent. For tonight’s game, the moneyline is split, with both LA and San Francisco sporting -110 odds to win. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs, and as I detailed above, I’ll take the over. If you think the Dodgers can win by 2+ runs, the odds are +155, which is pretty decent value. That’s oddsmakers taking into account the seeming mismatch between starting pitchers. But is it really such a mismatch in favor of Webb? Let’s dive into the numbers below.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Starting Pitchers

Landon Knack VS Logan Webb
1-1 Record 6-6
2.10 ERA 3.16
17.7% SO% 21.0%

Logan Webb is a savvy veteran for the Giants, but Landon Knack has been sharp in limited work for the Dodgers thus far in 2024.

Knack has made 5 starts this year and has yet to allow more than 2 earned runs in an outing. His issue is longevity. The Dodgers have only let him throw more than 75 pitches once so far. That just so happened to be against the Washington Nationals on April 24, when he went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs in his only victory of the year.

Interestingly enough, each of Knack’s last 3 outings have been in games that have gone to extra innings. The Dodgers are 1-2 in those games. Of course, there’s not much to read into that as it pertains to Knack. He keeps LA in the game through the first 5+ innings. That’s all he can do as the starter.

Webb, on the other hand, is the model of consistency. While the Giants’ pitching staff has been largely inconsistent and is searching for answers, Webb just keeps plugging away. He has churned out 12 quality starts in his 17 starts. The rest of the San Francisco staff combined has 14 quality starts.

This should be a good pitching matchup, at least through the first 5 innings. But all we need is a total of 8 runs. I expect some late fireworks. And if this game goes to extra innings like Knack’s last 3 starts, the over should hit. No matter who wins, this is sure to be an interesting start to the 3-game weekend series.
