  • The Philadelphia Phillies (59-32) host the Los Angeles Dodgers (55-37) on Wednesday night after scoring a 10-1 victory in the series opener on Tuesday.
  • Cristopher Sánchez (6-4, 2.96 ERA) will make the start for the Phillies, while the Dodgers counter with Gavin Stone (9-2, 3.03 ERA).
  • Keep reading to see our top picks from Wednesday’s showdown between 2 of the best teams in baseball.

The Philadelphia Phillies own the best record in baseball, but the Dodgers are no slouches. On Tuesday, Zack Wheeler dominated and Bobby Miller struggled, leading to a 10-1 series-opening win for Philadelphia in front of its home fans. The Dodgers will try to even the series tonight by sending Gavin Stone to the mount. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on ESPN.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Philadelphia Phillies Picks

  • Over 9.5 runs (-115)
  • Shohei Ohtani over 1.5 total bases (+105)

The Dodgers and Phillies have the 2 best offenses in the National League. Even though Zack Wheeler held LA to 1 run on Tuesday night before exiting with back stiffness after 5 innings of work, the over on runs still hit, as the Phillies score 10 runs of their own. I expect the runs to be a little bit more evenly distributed on Wednesday night, but I still like the over to hit. These offenses are simply too good.

Even in the blowout loss on Tuesday, Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-2 with a walk. Sánchez is no Zack Wheeler (though he’s no slouch, either), so look for Ohtani to come out swinging on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park. Any time you can get Ohtani over 1.5 total bases for + odds, it’s a very enticing bet.

Ohtani hasn’t posted 2+ bases in either of his last 2 games. That qualifies as a slump by his lofty standards. I like him to break out of that slump tonight and post an extra-base hit or 2.

So I’m heading over to bet365 to score +105 odds on Ohtani and -115 odds for over 9.5 runs to be scored.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Philadelphia Phillies Starting Pitchers

Gavin Stone VS Cristopher Sánchez
9-3 Record 6-4
3.03 ERA 2.96
19.3% SO% 20.6%

Though these pitchers might not be household names, they’re both putting together fantastic 2024 seasons. Sánchez currently ranks No. 12 in ERA, with Stone right behind him at 13th.

If there’s 1 thing to nitpick with these 2 pitchers (and you really have to stretch to get there), the strikeout rates aren’t elite for either of them. Sánchez has the slight edge, striking out just over 20% of the batters he faces. Stone’s percentage sits at 19.3%.

That could get these guys into trouble, especially considering these 2 offenses don’t strike out a ton. They’re both firmly in the middle of the pack among the 30 MLB teams when it comes to strikeout rate. Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith can mash at the top of the LA order. Trea Turner, Bryce Harper,  Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm form an imposing quartet atop the Philadelphia order.

Whichever pitcher induces more swings and misses in tonight’s game might be the one to give his team the win. Tune in to ESPN tonight at 7:05 p.m. ET to find out who gets the job done.
