The Mets are in rough shape right now, to put it lightly. They’ve lost 12 of their last 15 games and 15 of their last 20 after starting the season 12-8.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets Prediction

New York is one of the few teams who got the best of Los Angeles earlier in the season, winning their initial series 2-1 to earn that aforementioned 12-8 record. The Mets then lost their following series against the Giants, Cardinals and Rays while splitting their 4-game series with the Cubs.

And while the Dodgers are currently one of the best batting teams in baseball, the Mets have shifted to being one of the worst. They’re hitting just .231 on the season compared to LA’s mark of .254 and have scored 224 runs this season compared to the Dodgers’ 278.

David Peterson will be on the bump for New Yok in his return from the 60-day IL, making his first appearance this season. New York will start James Paxton, who owns a perfect 5-0 record so far this year. The Dodgers can expect 6 or so innings out of Paxton, who has allowed as many walks as he has strikeouts across his 49 innings of work.

The Mets, even with their woes at the plate as of late, should be able to get to Paxton plenty. Driving in runs may be another story. On top of that, their bullpen has issues of its own as of late, leaving me hesitant to pick New York outright in what should be a close matchup.
