As they’re playing their second successive day game of their ALDS, it’s not known or sure whether the Baltimore Orioles or Texas Rangers are daydream believers. However, it can be said for certain that both ball clubs delight in the daylight.
Baltimore is 36-23 straight up this season in day games. Meanwhile, Texas owns a 38-24 SU slate when there’s no need to turn on the lights inside the stadium.
Oddsmakers are staying with the hometown Orioles for Game 2 of this best-of-five set. Baltimore is established as the -148 favorite. The Orioles are 37-25 SU this season as the home chalk.

Orioles’ Rodriguez On Top Of Game
Getting the start in Saturday’s MLB lineups, Orioles rookie right-hander Grayson Rodriguez is 5-1 over his last six decisions. Baltimore is 4-2 SU in his last six starts.
Rodriguez has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last six starts, showing a 1.80 ERA over that span. Recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on July 17, the right-hander went on to post a 2.58 ERA over his final 13 regular-season starts.
Grayson Rodriguez went from not making the Orioles out of spring training. Making it a week later and not pitching well and getting optioned down.

Baltimore’s 2018 first-round draft pick hasn’t had much luck on the mound against the Rangers, though. He made his MLB debut April 5 at Texas. Allowing two earned runs over five innings, Rodriguez didn’t figure in the decision as the Rangers won 5-2. On May 26 at Camden Yards, Texas shelled the rookie right-hander for nine runs, eight earned, over a 3.1-inning span. Rodriguez took the loss and was assigned to Norfolk after that game.

The Rangers are going with left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who already has postseason success under his belt. He worked seven innings of shutout ball to get the win for Texas in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series with Tampa Bay.

Acquired during the season from the St Louis Cardinals, Montgomery was 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts for Texas. Overall this season he was 10-11 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts.
Montgomery is 3-1 since Aug 15. However, the Rangers are 2-6 in his last eight trips to the mound. Through his last 28 innings of work, Montgomery has allowed only two earned runs. He’s struck out 27 batters while walking just five.
Texas Rangers vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction
Texas led the American League in batting average (.263) and OPS (.789) this season. Corey Seager, Leody Taveras and Robbie Grossman have all homered for the Rangers this season off of Rodriguez. Between the three they’ve driven in eight runs.
For Baltimore, Austin Hays, James McCann, Ryan Mountcastle and Anthony Santander have all gone deep off of Montgomery. Mountcastle (four) and Santander (three) have combined to drive in seven runs against the Texas southpaw.

Montgomery has made three career postseason appearances and is displaying a career ERA of 0.66. He’s obviously not at all phased by the big stage. It’s the first taste of this level of baseball for Rodriguez and he’s endured his struggles against the Rangers in 2023.
