  • The San Francisco Giants host the Chicago Cubs for the 4th and final game in their series at 3:45 from Oracle Park.
  • The Giants won the first 3 games of the series and look for the 4-game sweep Thursday afternoon. The Cubs won their series over the Giants last week in Chicago.
  • See the odds, pitchers and a prediction for Thursday’s game below.

The San Francisco Giants look to complete the sweep over the Chicago Cubs following a good MLB Debut from Hayden Birdsong Wednesday night. The Giants used a 3-spot in the 2nd inning to down the Cubs 4-3, clinching the series in the process.

The Cubs (37-44, 15-26 Away) offensive woes continued, and there will be plenty more question marks heading into Thursday afternoon’s matchup against Giants starter Jordan Hicks.

Cubs vs. Giants Odds

Team Runline Moneyline Total
Chicago Cubs -1.5 (+150) -110 O 7.5 (-115)
San Francisco Giants +1.5 (-180) -110 U 7.5 (-105)

The Cubs are favorites to avoid the sweep on the runline, while the moneyline is dead even on Fanatics. Caesars and some other sportsbooks give the Cubs a slight edge on the moneyline (-115 vs. -105 for SF).

San Francisco is a considerable favorite on the runline at +1.5, and it isn’t hard to see why. 2 of the 3 games this series have been decided by a run and the Giants sit at -180. Chicago comes in at +150 to win by a pair of runs or more.

The over/under total for this game is 7.5, with the over just slightly favored. The Giants and Cubs have been under this total in 2 of their 3 matchups. All 3 of last week’s games in Chicago went well over this total in a much more hitter-friendly park.

Shota Imanaga vs Jordan Hicks

Imanaga
VS
Hicks
7-2 Record 4-4
2.96 ERA 3.24
3.55 xERA 4.52
1.10 WHIP 1.28
79.0 IP 80.2

The Cubs are expected to start lefty Shota Imanaga, who is having a spectacular first season in Major League Baseball. The Fukuoka, Japan native has a 7-2 W/L and 81 strikeouts through 79 innings pitched this season.

The Cubs will have the advantage on the mound in this matchup because the Giants rotation has never faced Imanaga. Not to mention, Imanaga is arguably coming off the worst start of his career thus far against the Mets – so he’s due for a bounce back game.

San Francisco will start Jordan Hicks on the mound, who is also coming off a rough prior performance where he allowed 5 earned runs through 4 innings against the Cardinals, his former team. Hicks just saw the Cubs last weekend, allowing zero earned runs through 5 innings of work.

Hicks’ transition to a starter has started to falter some. He’s thrown less innings on average the past weeks than he did to start the season, but he should be in for a high strikeout game given the cubs are 22nd in Ks per 9 innings this season and he’s one of San Francisco’s top K pitchers after Logan Webb.

Giants vs. Cubs Prediction (June 27)

I like Imanaga to have a bounce back game more than Hicks after both struggled in their previous outings. He’s been the more consistent pitcher of the pair this season and will no doubt last on the mound longer than Hicks, who hasn’t gone over 5 innings since May.

Not to mention, Chicago has been within a run twice this series and just faced Hicks last week. Giants +1.5 would also probably be a safe pick, but I’m going to roll with the Cubs ML for now.

I’d lean towards the under hitting once again, but 7.5 is such a low number and this series is due for a higher scoring game.

SF vs. CHI: CHI -110 ML
