There’s no such thing as home field advantage for the Washington Nationals (27-43, 12-24 home) this season. Owners of the worst record as hosts in the senior circuit, they look to snap a seven game slide at Nationals Park when they host the Cardinals (29-43, 16-22 away) on Monday, June 19th.
A preseason favorite in the NL Central division odds at -129, this season has been nothing short of disastrous for St. Louis, but they have won two straight. Their odds have lengthened to +425, but could start a bit of a run here by taking advantage of a struggling Nationals side.
Opening pitch for the first game of this series is slated for 4:05 pm ET and can be seen on MASN as well as Bally Sports Network Midwest. Below, you can find the Cardinals vs Nationals odds as well as our picks and probable starting pitchers for Monday’s matchup.
Cardinals vs Nationals Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
St. Louis Cardinals | -155 | -1.5 (+100) | O 9 (-115) |
Washington Nationals | +135 | +1.5 (-120) | U 9 (-105) |
Although these teams have the same number of losses, it’s the Cardinals who are -155 favorites for the series opener. Part of the reason for that is because Washington is going through a terrible month, with a 3-11 record so far in June.
It’s looking like a scorcher at game time, with the temperatures expected to be around 88 degrees with lots of sun, although the humidity should be around 40%, which is more than manageable for the players.

St. Louis vs Washington Probable Pitchers
Coming off a tough outing against the Giants, Jack Flaherty gets the ball for the Cardinals, but in this outing he’ll be going against on the weakest MLB starting lineups in the Nationals. Only one team in all of baseball has fewer homers than the 54 the Nats have parked this campaign.
Not the start you wanted if you're Jack Flaherty.
He needs 101 pitches to get through 4 1/3, departs with 10 hits and five runs on his line (so far) with runners on the corners and Brandon Crawford due up. He also took exception with Wade Jr.

Over his career against Washington, Flaherty has fared pretty well, posting a 2.14 ERA in four career starts. Although he got touched up for 10 hits and six earned in his last appearance, prior to that he hadn’t allowed more than three earned to an opponent since May 4th, so look for a bounce back from the Cards veteran
Flaherty vs Gray Stats
3-5 | Record | 4-5 |
4.64 | ERA | 3.19 |
1.59 | WHIP | 1.35 |
.269 | OBA | .236 |
1.7 | SO/W Ratio | 1.8 |
After a difficult campaign last year when he allowed the most homers and walks of any pitcher, a ruinous combination, Josiah Gray has proven to be the most dependable starter in the Nats rotation this season.
He’s sporting a comfortable 3.19 ERA and has cut down significantly on the long balls, conceding only 10 so far. However, free passes continue to be a problem. He’s walked 37 batters this year and if he finds a way to cut down on his control issues, the sky is the limit for the 25-year old.
Nationals Home-Field Disadvantage
It’s been a miserable run at home for the Nats lately, as they are one of the best teams to bet against in the MLB odds when hosting. In fact, they have only one win at their own park this month.
Nationals’ Recent Home Results
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
06/18/2023 | Marlins | Nationals | MIA, 4-2 |
06/17/2023 | Marlins | Nationals | MIA, 5-2 |
06/07/2023 | Diamondbacks | Nationals | ARI, 6-2 |
06/06/2023 | Diamondbacks | Nationals | ARI, 10-5 |
06/04/2023 | Phillies | Nationals | PHI, 11-3 |
06/03/2023 | Phillies | Nationals | PHI, 4-2 |
As a team, they’re only scoring 3.78 runs per contest at home, while allowing over five runs per game.
Cardinals vs Nationals Picks
This might be a season that goes totally down the drain for the Cardinals if they don’t get their act together soon. Manager Oliver Marmol is on the hot seat, but his players came to his defense with their words and with two big wins to close out the weekend.
Oliver Marmol met Friday with nine different players in his office — and perhaps others on other days.

The only team playing worse in the senior circuit is the Nationals, and given their weak play on their own field, especially as of late, our pick is to roll with the Cardinals to keep their win streak going on Monday afternoon.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals Moneyline (-155)
