Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees: Preview & Prediction

Giancarlo Stanton got off to a great start in a Yankee uniform when he clubbed two homers on Opening Day against Toronto. It’s been all downhill since then. The high-priced slugger has just one homer in his last 15 games and now sits second in the league in strikeouts.
Today, he’ll have a chance to break out of his slump against more of that Blue Jays pitching when New York hosts Toronto at Yankee Stadium (7:07 PM, April 19). CC Sabathia takes the bump for New York while Aaron Sanchez goes for the Jays.
Below, find the opening odds, key statistics and betting trends, weather forecast, and score prediction for tonight’s game.
Opening Odds
MONEYLINE | RUNLINE | O/U RUNS |
---|---|---|
BLUE JAYS (+135) | BLUE JAYS +1.5 (-165) | OVER 9.0 (-120) |
YANKEES (-145) | YANKEES -1.5 (+145) | UNDER 9.0 (+100) |
Sabathia has only made two starts to date, and hasn’t lasted past the fifth. He was forced to leave his last start (April 6 vs Baltimore) after four innings with hip soreness, but had already surrendered the runs on three solo homers by that time.
He was better in his first outing (also against Toronto), going five innings and giving up five hits and just one run.
Sanchez came into the year with some Cy Young hype. While he didn’t come out of the gate fast, he’s now trending in that direction.
He was banged around by the Yankees in his first outing (5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER), was a bit better next time out against the White Sox (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER), and then put all the pieces together versus Baltimore (8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER).

Score Prediction
BLUE JAYS | 4 |
YANKEES | 3 |
The Blue Jays have been putting up a startling number of runs for a team that’s been decimated by injuries. Josh Donaldson, Kendry Morales, and Troy Tulowitzki are all on the DL, yet Toronto has scored 39 runs in its last four games.
The Jays are getting contributions from all over; eight players have at least eight RBIs.
Sanchez has electric stuff and the potential to shutdown lineups, even ones as potent as New York’s.
The Yankees, meanwhile, have been shockingly inconsistent. They haven’t won (or lost) more than two straight all season, and Aaron Judge (.339 BA, 1.073 OPS, 11 RBI) and Didi Gregorius (.333 BA, 1.268 OPS, 16 RBI) are the only hitters providing reliable offense.
Sanchez has electric stuff and the potential to shutdown lineups, even ones as potent as New York’s. There’s value on the team and pitcher trending up at +135. But don’t expect the Jays to keep putting up runs like they did against the Royals. The Yankees’ pitching is better than that, even though the bullpen has struggled so far.
