Both the New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators are looking for a spot in the Eastern conference playoffs; both will clash this Monday at 7:30 PM ET at Scotiabank Place. The Devils beat the Florida Panthers 2-1 on Saturday and added their second win in a row after they have lost their previous three. “Injuries are a part of this,” coach Peter DeBoer said after the Devils’ won their second straight game since Martin Brodeur returned a pinched nerve in his back. “Everybody is dealing with them, so I think we have to be prepared for that,” DeBoer said. “I think mentally coming into the season we’re prepared that we’re going to have to lose key people and be able to survive it. So no one is feeling sorry for yourself, and we’ll get through it.” How good us Martin Brodeaur? He got the 666th win of his career. “I thought the second period was the best we’ve played in a long while,” Brodeur said after his 666th win. “I gave up the puck at the end, and those things happen. I’m sure it will happen again. Sometimes, you get surprised like that. It’s part of the game. I’m just lucky it wasn’t the game-tying goal.” The Senators also had a successful day after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3. “Any time you’re up 4-0 after the first period the test becomes to see if you can continue to play,” Senators coach Paul Maclean said. “I was pleased with how we came out and started the game but as the game wore on it became harder and harder for us to stay playing. The only meeting between these two in the season ended with a 2-1 overtime win by the Senators.
