The highly anticipated match between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau is finally upon us as the rivals will duke it out. The two adversaries have had plenty of run-ins and controversies between the two of them, and they’ll both be eager to claim supremacy, even if it’s just an exhibition match.

It’ll be a twelve-hole affair at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas on Friday, dubbed the fifth version of ‘The Match’ and first one-on-one competition since the initial battle between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Opening odds gave the ‘Mad Scientist’ DeChambeau the edge at -125, and the line has stayed the same.

Turner Sports will televise The Match on TNT (as well as TBS, TruTV and HLN) at 4pm ET, the day after American Thanksgiving.

To put it mildly, these two guys don’t like each other – or at least that’s what they’ve been fooling us all this time into believing. Koepka has been infuriated with DeChambeau’s slow play in the past, which led to Bryson getting upset and chirping his adversary on a livestream. That didn’t end so well, as Koepka was able to clap back.

There were other small run-ins, including Koepka mocking DeChambeau asking for free relief from fire ants, and of course, the viral video of Koepka’s utter disdain over DeChambeau distracting him.

Do they genuinely not get along, or it all for show to lead to events like these? After all, the ice seemed to thaw between them when they were both a part of the USA dismantling of Europe at the Ryder Cup.

Both players were great in par-5 scoring last season – Bryson was tied for first and Koepka was tied for seventh. On the Par-5, fifth hole, they’ll both find it tough to hit the green in two, but Koepka is more superior in his approach game (25th to 53rd), and fortunately, the odds on him are better (+250 vs +200).

DeChambeau, who is favored to win the whole match, is better in front-nine scoring average compared to his counterpart (6th vs 29th), and with the match being just twelve holes, it’s reasonable to think the better player out of the gate will post the best six-hole score.

As for who will win the entire match, there is a great deal more value selecting Koepka. He’s not been good in the early part of the 2021-22 season, but he’s shown he can get up to play in events he cares more about (typically the majors).

Time and time again, doubting Koepka has not been fortuitous when it comes to spotlight events. Both have their reasons to want to crush the other, but Koepka’s haul of four majors compared to the one by DeChambeau wins out.
