- The best value prop bet picks
The official restart to the 2018-19 PGA Tour season begins in earnest this week (January 3rd) in Hawaii for the winners-only Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Among the 37 champions last season, 34 have decided to tee it up, with only Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose declining to participate. If you want the odds to win the tournament, see our 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions Odds and Picks.
Books have offered several prop bets for the tournament so we’re going to find the best picks for you to make your wallet fatter in the New Year. There are a myriad of choices to bet on but let’s pick out five fun ones.

Thomas, Koepka and DeChambeau vs the Field
Golfers | Odds |
---|---|
Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau | +275 |
The Field | -400 |
*All odds taken January 2nd
Justin Thomas has seven wins in the last two years, including this very event in 2017.
All Brooks Koepka has done is win three majors in the last two years and won his first non-major since 2015.
Bryson DeChambeau has three wins in his last five official tour starts. All told, this is a juicy bet to pick one of those three guys to win with nine golfers sporting +10000 or longer odds to win this tournament!
Last 5 starts on TOUR for @B_DeChambeau:

First Round Leader
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Dustin Johnson | +900 |
Brooks Koepka | +1100 |
Justin Thomas | +1100 |
Jon Rahm | +1100 |
Gary Woodland | +2200 |
This bet is always a dart throw but there is one intriguing name to select here – Gary Woodland.
He was the first round leader at the PGA Championship in August and has finished 12th or better in six of his last seven events. He also ended last season with opening rounds of 67 or better in six of his last seven events.

Top American Golfer
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Dustin Johnson | +350 |
Brooks Koepka | +600 |
Justin Thomas | +600 |
Bryson DeChambeau | +900 |
Patrick Reed | +900 |
If you want to hedge against the Thomas/Koepka/DeChambeau vs the field bet then you could recoup that by looking for a name on this list who was on our Sentry Tournament of Champions preview.

That would be none other than the fiery pitbull Patrick Reed, who undoubtedly will have a massive chip on his shoulder after the Ryder Cup controversy that he found himself embroiled in.
His three career starts at Kapalua have been dynamite – a victory (2015), a runner-up finish, and a tie for sixth.
Better Finish – Dustin Johnson vs Jon Rahm
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Dustin Johnson | -150 |
Jon Rahm | +115 |
These two guys finished first and second at this tournament just last year – albeit DJ smoked Rahm en route to an eight-stroke victory.
Rahm won his last event (Hero World Challenge) while Johnson finished seventh. Rahm is primed for a monster season and because their games are so similar, and there’s more value in betting on the Spaniard, go with Rahm.
To hell with the #1 world golf ranking. Jon Rahm’s hat tan got him in the hall of fame. Today. pic.twitter.com/2GT6IkrZF6

Will there be a Playoff?
Will there be a Playoff? | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +300 |
No | -450 |
It’s so tempting to pick YES simply because of the great value, but recent history suggests it would be unlikely.
Eight of the last ten tournaments have resulted in a regulation victory. Of those eight times, six have been by at least three strokes, including DJ’s eight-stroke triumph last year.
