A fourth iteration of The Match is set, featuring Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers up against 2021 PGA Champion Phil Mickelson and reigning Super Bowl winner Tom Brady.
The format is expected to be a modified alternate shot, where both teammates hit tee shots, select the best one then alternate shots through the hole. Last time around, Lefty and partner Charles Barkley soundly defeated Peyton Manning and Steph Curry. 4&3.
The course will be the Jack Nicklaus signature layout Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana. It sits 7,500 feet above sea level with a length of over 8,000 yards from the tips. Expect massive bombs given the considerable elevation changes throughout the track.
The match will be played on Tuesday, July 6th, with Mickelson being the only constant to play in all four versions.

DeChambeau and Rodgers Should Have Leg Up
If you are to look at each duo and project who should win, the oddsmakers have it totally bang on, with Bryson DeChambeau the more consistent and safer play with his prodigious drives, and Aaron Rodgers considered a better golfer than Tom Brady.
However, this is Phil Mickelson we’re talking about, who just turned back the clock to win his second PGA Championship for his sixth career major title. Brady also continues to get it done on the gridiron, capturing his seventh Lombardi Trophy in February.

In terms of current form, DeChambeau is destroying Lefty, as he ranks first in strokes gained off-the-tee and total strokes gained compared to Mickelson, who is 181st and 143rd, respectively, in those categories.
Rodgers is very solid, finishing 16th last year at the American Century Championship celebrity event and teamed with Max Homa for a top-10 at the 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. In the Match II, Brady struggled considerably – this amazing shot notwithstanding.

That wasn’t enough to fuel a victory with Mickelson, which remains the lone time Lefty has lost in the three iterations of this exhibition match.
Let The Trash Talking Begin
The easiest bet in the history of the world, if there would ever be a betting line created, would be that Mickelson and Brady will surely bring up the fact that combined they’ve won 13 majors and Super Bowls between them compared to DeChambeau and Rodgers’ lonely two titles.
To that end, the seven-time Super Bowl Champ has already started with the trolling on social media, making light of the Packers decision to opt for a field goal in a one touchdown contest late in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship game in lieu of a field goal.

He wasn’t done there, as Brady continued to pour salt on the wound, hoping to get inside the heads of his combatants, chirping DeChambeau for being perceived to ostracize people.

Mickelson lives for these matches, and considering he’s the underdog after just winning his sixth career major title, he’ll use that as extra motivation to want to prove the naysayers wrong yet again.
