The anticipation for the 101st PGA Championship at Bethpage Black Golf Course is reaching a fevered pitch with Tiger Woods searching for his second straight major and a lot of big names in fine form.

On the other hand, Justin Rose has seen his odds fade a little to an average of 20-1 across out trusted books. Who presents the better bet?

All Brooks Koepka Does is Contend (and Win) Majors
You’d be right if you were confused that Brooks Koepka was literally a machine. Since his dominant US Open title in 2017 the swashbuckling savant has added two more majors and nearly added a green jacket to his collection last month.

He’s in fine form as well, placing fourth at last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson. His game sets up perfectly too for the punishing Bethpage Black track which demands long and precise drives.
Brooks Koepka’s Last 7 Majors
Tournament | Result |
---|---|
2019 Masters | T-2nd |
2018 PGA Championship | WIN |
2018 Open Championship | T-39th |
2018 U.S. Open | WIN |
2017 PGA Championship | T-13th |
2017 Open Championship | T-6th |
2017 U.S. Open | WIN |
Despite the low +1100 odds, Koepka is without question an auto bet at this point. He’s just getting better after each major triumph instead of resting on his laurels. Put your faith in him with confidence.
.@BKoepka is 55-under in majors since the 2016 PGA began, 15 shots better than any other player in that span. Why the 3-time major champion is even better than you think: https://t.co/APGHSqhcGv pic.twitter.com/8PFNaMi8RK

Justin Rose’s PGA Championship Odds Fading
Speaking of auto bets, wagering on Justin Rose to make the cut at last month’s Masters seemed all but a certainty. He’d made all 13 cuts in his career at Augusta National but uncharacteristically failed to make the weekend, which has pushed his odds for the PGA down to a solid +2000 value.
Justin Rose now has 35 top-10 finishes in his last 56 worldwide starts (63%).

In his last event he finished in third place at the Wells Fargo Championship, so he clearly put the Masters mess behind him. Rose, however, hasn’t had a stellar track record of late at the PGA Championship.
Justin Rose’s Last 6 PGA Championships
Year | Result |
---|---|
2018 | T-19th |
2017 | Missed Cut |
2016 | T-22nd |
2015 | 4th |
2014 | T-24th |
2013 | T-33rd |
In addition to that, Rose didn’t make the weekend when the US Open was held at Bethpage Black in 2009. He enters this week a rather middling 67th in strokes gained off the tee, which doesn’t bode well for projected success.

He’s still Justin Rose though – the second best player in the world and capable of winning a tournament at any time. This is a difficult one, but with the thick rough and damp conditions, failing to gain ground on the field off the tee could be his Achilles heel. Make the difficult decision and pass on him to win the PGA Championship.
The Best Bet to Win 2019 PGA Championship
Rory McIlroy has been playing dynamite golf in 2019 with eight top-10’s in nine starts, highlighted by his victory at the Players Championship. He’s first in strokes gained off the tee, leads in strokes gained tee to green, and is tops in total strokes gained as well. Bet Rory to win his third career PGA Championship.
Pick: Rory McIlroy (+1100)
