The Shriners Children’s Open is set to tee off from TPC Summerlin, and it features a solid field that includes six players who recently competed in the Ryder Cup. The winning American trio of Brooks Koepka, Harris English and Scottie Scheffler are among them, with Viktor Hovland, Paul Casey and Ian Poulter playing from the European contingent.
Notable absences include past champions Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau, along with Collin Morikawa, who lives close to the course.
Going low is imperative for success around this track, with nine of the last eleven champions recording a score of at least 20-under-par. Last year, the cut came at 7-under-par, the lowest since the PGA Tour kept track of stats in the 1970’s. It is almost always a close battle too, with only five instances in the 38-year history of this tournament resulting in a winning margin of more than two strokes.

Sungjae Im Has Played Well at This Course
Sungjae Im has competed in the Shriners Children’s Open twice in his career, and he’s picked up a pair of top-15 finishes. He’s also played the weekend in his last eleven starts, with a third place showing at the BMW Championship three starts ago his best result.
Im led the Tour in birdies last season (390) which will come in handy this week, where a ton of low scores are required to challenge for the trophy. In his last twelve rounds, he’s seventh in total strokes gained and twelfth in ball striking. He’s also shown impressive ‘strokes gained’ stats from his two times teeing it up at TPC Summerlin.
Sungjae Im’s Strokes Gained Stats In 8 Rounds at TPC Summerlin
Tee-To-Green | Off-The-Tee | Ball Striking | Total | Approach |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 1 | 13 | 18 |
Im, who won the 2020 Honda Classic, is vying for his second tour title like Sam Burns secured last weekend. At +2500 odds, his price is intriguing compared to several others who have shorter odds.

2021 Shriners Children’s Open Best Value Picks
- Patrick Reed (+4000): Patrick Reed missed some time at the end of last season due to pneumonia but came back to play the Tour Championship. He finished off the campaign with top-35’s in ten of his last twelve starts and was 14th in total birdies for the 2020-21 season.
- Maverick McNealy (+6000): Maverick McNealy very nearly won his first PGA Tour event in his last start at the Fortinet Championship. He was 54-hole co-leader before placing runner-up. He’s had top-30’s in eight of the last nine times teeing it up.
- Scott Piercy (+13000): Scott Piercy is a prime boom or bust candidate. In his last 24 rounds at this course, he’s first in strokes gained ball striking, tee-to-green and approach. He has eight career top-25’s at this event, including four top-10’s. He has three top-15’s in his last five starts, including a third place at the Barracuda Championship.
