Patrick Cantlay continues to carry the hot hand. At this week’s PGA Tour Championship, the American has been joined atop the leaderboard by Spain’s Jon Rahm.
That duo has been running neck-and-neck for the tournament lead since the first round. Rahm led through the first round but Cantlay overtook him in Round 2. He’ll carry a two-shot lead over the Spaniard entering Sunday’s action.
Cantlay is set as the -120 favorite to win the tournament heading into Sunday’s final round of play. Rahm is the second betting choice at +130. American Justin Thomas, who was the biggest mover of the day on Saturday, is still a distant third at +1200.

Cantlay Poised To Win It All
Cantlay is looking to win for the second week in a row. He defeated 2020 US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau in a playoff to win last week’s BMW Championship.
He posted four birdies through the first 10 holes of Saturday’s round to take charge of the tournament. However, Cantlay began to give it back on the back nine. He wrapped three bogeys around a pair of birdies through the remaining eight holes.
The stage is set.

Cantlay teed off in this event as the second betting choice at +450. With 4,320 points, he leads the FedEx Cup standings.
Cantlay’s three wins this season are the most of any player on the PGA Tour. He set a PGA Tour record in strokes gained during last week’s win.
Rahm Right There
A three birdie, one bogey round left Rahm with a two-under par 68 for the third round. That was his highest score of the tournament.

Still, he remains within striking distance of Cantlay. Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open champ, shows 14 top-10s in 21 starts this season. That’s five more than anyone else on the PGA Tour.
Patty Ice Poised To Ice FedEx Cup
Under the format introduced for the 2019 season, the golfers enter the PGA Tour Championship each assigned starting strokes in FedEx Cup play. As the leader in the standings, Cantlay started out at -10.

The FedEx Cup winner is determined by adding their final score in the PGA Tour Championship to their starting strokes. That leaves Cantlay — or Patty Ice, as the calm, cool and collected Cantlay is known — sitting at -30 entering the final round of play.
Fourth in the FedEx Cup standings, Rahm began the tournament at -6. He’ll tee it up for the final round of play at -24.
In a separate prop on the tournament that eliminates the starting strokes, Rahm is the -110 favorite.
Justin Running Out Of Time
Justin Thomas is seeking to join Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as two-time FedExCup champs. However, even with a spellbinding performance during the third round, his chances remain slim.
Thomas tied for Saturday’s low round with a five-under pat 65. However, a bogey on 18 to go with his six birdies was a costly finish to the day for the American.
Justin Thomas needed this 6-footer for par on 18 for his first career bogey-free round at East Lake (23rd round).

To have any hope of a title, Thomas will need another round like that on Sunday. He’ll also require both Cantlay and Rahm to back up to him.
