- The 2019-20 PGA Tour season tees off just three weeks after last season ended
- A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier begins Thursday September 12th
- We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious
If you blinked then apologies to you, but you missed the excruciatingly long two week PGA Tour off-season with the new one beginning in earnest at the Greenbrier, an event moving from its customary July slot on the calendar to its new time as the kickoff of the 2019-20 wraparound season.
The field is chalk full of golfers who earned their tour cards from the Korn Ferry Tour, and has a a few recognizable names but lacks star power. This is the first event under the new tour cut protocol with now only the top 65 golfers and ties making the weekend. Of note, in the tournament’s eight year history, no 54-hole leader has ever gone on to win the tournament, so historically there’s value in betting on a comeback heading into Sunday.

Sungjae Im Worth a Wager
The only rookie to make the finale of the FedEx Cup playoffs, Sungjae Im has a complete game that served him well in his first year but didn’t result in a victory.
The 21-year old phenom has all the tools and amazing stamina, having played in a whopping 35 events, recording seven top ten finishes. He’s accustomed to beginning the season off hot too, winning in his 2018 Korn Ferry Tour debut and then finishing T-4th in his first start on the PGA Tour last season.
Sungjae Im, who played 3 more tournaments than anyone else on the PGA Tour last season, made 83 more birdies than anybody else in '18-19. That is the largest gap between first and second place in that statistic since the Tour started keeping it in 1980.

Over the course of tournament history, going low is imperative for victory, with the average winning score at -15, so Im’s penchant for making birdies in bunches will go a long way in his attempt at his first PGA Tour victory.
You’re not getting tremendous value with Im at +2500, but considering the relatively weak field, you probably should be getting lower odds on him that are currently posted.

2019 Greenbrier Classic Best Value Picks
- Scottie Scheffler (+4000): Leading money winner from the Korn Ferry Tour last season. Won twice on PGA Tour junior circuit and had two runner-ups.
- Branden Grace (+8000): Didn’t play anywhere near his capabilities last season, with one second place finish and just one other top ten. Simply too good a player, however, to pass up at this juicy odds in a diluted field. (Shot lowest round ever in a major at 2017 Open Championship)
- Patrick Rodgers (+20000): Deep dive with massive upside. Uber talented, the former Stanford All-American is healthy again after missing four months with injuries. Shot 61-62 on weekend last November to force a playoff at RSM Classic indicating his vast potential.
