- LEC Summer Split kicks off June 7th in Berlin
- Will G2 carry the momentum after winning MSI?
- Are there any teams that can challenge the EU superteam?
The EU region is looking as strong as ever with G2 coming off of winning MSI, the first international title for a European team since Season 1 Worlds. After the win it’s no surprise that they are the favorite heading into the Summer Split which begins on June 7th.
Though they more or less dominated the LEC in the Spring Split, they are only listed a little bit ahead of the second team in the odds table, Fnatic. Should you expect G2 to keep it rolling after the MSI win and once again tear up the LEC? Or is there another team that can knock off the European super team?

Clean Sweep for G2 on the Horizon?
G2 made major waves heading into the 2019 season shifting Perkz to the ADC role and bringing in Caps from Fnatic, which left people wondering how it was actually going to play out. The people that had their doubts surely had them silenced in the first split of the year with G2 finishing with a 13-5 record and strolling through the playoffs with ease en route to the LEC Spring title and a trip to MSI.
Many, including myself, thought that G2 could make some noise at MSI, but in the end would probably fall short in either the final or semifinals. However, they once again showed up huge. After coming back on SKT T1 in the semifinals and winning the series 3-2, they were set to match up with Liquid in the finals with a very good chance of taking home an international trophy.

As most expected G2 came out on top over Liquid, but the way they did it was truly dominant. They mollywhopped Liquid in the fastest best-of-five final in international play in the history of League of Legends.

They showed that a team from the west can not only hang with the best teams in Asia, but they can compete with them for the title of the best team in the world. I fully expect that G2 will continue their run off of MSI right through the LEC Summer Split, and once again come out with a domestic title.

The only question mark behind G2 would pretty much be the health of their support player Mikyx. He has struggled with wrist issues over the past split which saw G2 bring in promisq as a substitute. In those games G2 went 0-2 with their starting Support on the bench.
If Mikyx is to have similar problems in the Summer Split, then G2 may be forced once again to play with a substitute support. As long as he is 100% for playoffs I don’t see it being an issue, as G2 is skilled enough to get to there without one of their starting members.
Any Other Teams to Consider?
Honestly I don’t see any other team in the LEC coming out on top when all is said and done. The only other team I would even consider putting any faith in would be Fnatic, but I just don’t see them being able to get it done against this iteration of G2.
G2 is just too strong of a team from top to bottom, and barring something insane happening they should once again cruise through the Split on their way to their second title of the year in the LEC and a clean sweep for 2019.
Pick: G2 (+170)
