The CS:GO Asia Championships are set to run November 20-24, in Shanghai and will see eight teams battling it out to take home the $250,000 prize for first place. Of the eight teams, seven are invites with the remaining team gaining entry through a Chinese Qualifier.
The early favorites heading into the event are Evil Geniuses, who are coming off of a disappointing performance earlier in the month at IEM Beijing where they failed to crack the top-4. Will The Boys in Blue be able to redeem themselves this time around in China? Or is there a better bet to come out with the trophy and cash come Sunday?

Redemption in China for EG?
After falling flat in China earlier in the month at IEM Beijing, there is no doubt that EG will be playing with something to prove at the CS:GO Asia Championships. They were slated as one of the tournament favorites the first time around in Beijing, behind only the eventual winners, Astralis.
Things are looking like they will be much easier for the North Americans this time around though, as there is only one other team listed in the HLTV top-10 that will be in attendance at the CS:GO Asia Championships. That’s not to say there aren’t other teams that could upset Evil Geniuses and leave them empty handed in China once again.

If they show the same form they did earlier in the month at IEM Beijing, then it’s very possible they don’t even get to see the final of the CS:GO Asia Championship, let alone win it all. EG need to find some sort of consistency because it seems like they have a hard time stringing together good performances tournament to tournament.
They have a good one where they either win or reach the finals, then the very next one they bomb out early. Some say it’s because of jet lag which could very well be the case. Let’s just hope the Geniuses aren’t jet lagged this time around in Shanghai.
Sleepers to Win Out in Shanghai
If you’re looking for more value in an outright winner, then you definitely want to consider both G2 and AVANGAR. Both teams are a lot more likely to come out with the trophy and quarter of a million than all of ENCE, mousesports, and MiBR, who are all listed above them in the odds table.
G2 has looked very promising after bringing in huNter and nexa in their first-ever international roster, with wins over Na’vi, NiP, and North since the change. If they are able to bring their A-game to Shanghai, they are a threat to not only reach the finals, but outright win.
It’s time for the announcement you’ve all been waiting for!

AVANGAR, on the other hand, are really a threat in any tournament they enter. They have a pretty unique playstyle that focuses on keeping an AWP in the hands of Jame no matter what. You will often see SANJI on a pistol with no armor just so he is able to drop an AWP for their Russian star.
Their strange style of play seems to catch the top teams off guard a lot of the time, which makes them a good wildcard pick at any given tournament. Though I think Evil Geniuses should probably have this tournament in the bag, both teams are worth a look at taking the title at the CS:GO Asia Championships.
Pick: Evil Geniuses (+150)
Best Bets to Reach the Final
The teams in this prop aren’t going to be much different than the ones I highlighted in the first, as I really only see a couple of teams playing Sunday for all the marbles. Evil Geniuses are a lock in my eyes, and since I think they will more than likely win it all that’s one of the two finals spots out of the question.
The other spot I believe will end up belonging to either G2 or AVANGAR. There are other teams that may be able to string together some good games and end up in the final, maybe ENCE or mousesports, but both rosters just haven’t found any real success over the past few months that would lead me to believe that it’s likely.
Sure they both have some star power on their teams, more so mousesports than ENCE, but they are just constantly underperforming event after event which makes it hard to put any real stock into them reaching the final in Shanghai.
Picks: Evil Geniuses (-350) / G2 (+400)
Region to Win at CS:GO Asia Championships
Region | Odds to Win |
---|---|
Europe | -125 |
North America | -110 |
China | +5000 |
Which Region Will Reign Supreme?
For this prop I have to stick with my guns and go with North America since I think EG will end up winning here. Surprisingly though they are listed with greater value than Europe even though they are the tournament favorites, so it might be worth tossing a couple bucks on NA with their added value.
Pick: North America (-110)
