Western Michigan is anywhere from 6.5-point favorite at Caesars and BetMGM to 7.5 at BetRivers. The total also fluctuates a point. It’s 55.5 at BetRivers, and 56.5 at BetMGM. The best moneyline bets are Central Michigan at +210 at Bet365 while Western Michigan is -230 at FanDuel.

Central has been underdogs each of the last five weeks…and lost all five games straight up. They are 2-3 against the spread during that time.

The total here is an interesting bet. Five of the Broncos’ last six games have hit the over, and Central is 6-4 over/under this season. Plus, three of the last four meetings have gone over.

The weather forecast for Mount Pleasant is rain most of the morning and into the early afternoon on Tuesday. Temps in the low 50s.

When The Chips Are Down

Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain finally convinced the world that he’s not in that infamous shark picture (google it) and he has turned the Chips into MAC contenders, but they have lost five in a row and have been destroyed by injuries.

Starting QB Joe Labas hurt his arm in a loss to Ohio. The Chips turned to Bert Emanuel Jr., but he hurt his ankle in a loss to Eastern Michigan (a game Central led 34-16 and lost). They tried freshman Tyler Jefferson at QB but yanked him for Jadyn Glasser, who made his first start against Toledo last week. He threw two picks.

Central has also lost multiple wide receivers due to injury. Their offense revolves around running back Marion Lukes, who is eighth in the MAC with 617 yards and five scores.

Western Leaning

The Broncos are a game out of first in the MAC after back-to-back losses to Bowling Green and Northern Illinois. They have the No. 1 offense in the country, powered by quarterback Hayden Wolff, who has thrown for 1,962 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Tight end Blake Bosma has a team-high six TD catches.

Oklahoma State transfer Jaden Nixon is averaging over seven yards a carry, but he was held to just 22 yards in the loss to Bowling Green.

The Western Michigan defense is so-so. They rank ninth in the MAC in points allowed, but who wants to see defense in MACtion?

Central Michigan is only playing for pride – and the Victory Cannon, while Western Michigan is a win away from becoming bowl-eligible.

The difference between these two teams is clear. It’s at quarterback. Wolff is an established veteran, while Central is playing a true freshman whether they use Jefferson or Glasser (my guess is they use both).

Also, being at home hasn’t helped Central in this rivalry. They haven’t beaten Western Michigan in Mount Pleasant since 2010. We like Western Michigan to win comfortably, and we like the under because we can’t see Central putting up a lot of points.
