It’s been so long since Texas (1-0, 0-1 ATS) played at Alabama (1-0, 1-0 ATS), the game was played during the Roosevelt Administration – the Theodore Roosevelt Administration.
Texas won that game 10-0 in 1902, but oddsmakers aren’t expecting history to repeat itself. As the two schools meet again in Alabama, it’s the #4 Crimson Tide who are 7-point home favorites over the #11 Longhorns. Alabama is 5-2-1 against the spread over the school’s past eight home games.
Let’s dive into the Texas vs Alabama odds and offer you our prediction for this college football Week 2 showdown.

Texas is actually 7-2-1 straight up all-time against Alabama. However, the last time the Longhorns beat the Tide was in the 1982 Cotton Bowl. Of course, it’s worth noting that the two schools are only meeting for the third time since that game.
Alabama kicked a late field goal to win 20-19 at Texas last season. The Crimson Tide were the 22-point chalk in that game. This year, Alabama opened as a 6.5-point pick.
Kickoff for this game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, September 9 is set for 6:00pm ET. The broadcast is being carried by ESPN.
Longhorns vs Crimson Tide Betting Splits
The people aren’t sure in which direction the outcome of this game will be going if the NCAA public betting trends are any indication. On the spread splits. handle is divided 50-50, while bets are leaning 66% toward Alabama. The Crimson Tide is 3-5-1 ATS over the past nine games. Moneyline splits are showing 65% of handle on underdog Texas and 80% of bets backing the favored Tide. The Longhorns are 2-5 SU in their last seven games facing SEC opposition.
The people can’t even agree on the total. There’s 85% of handle going on the over, but 65% of bets like the under. The over has come in four times in the last five road games played by the Longhorns.
Alabama is the second betting choice in the National Championship odds at +5500. Â The Longhorns are set with 2023 NCAA win total odds of 10. Over is worth +100, while under gains the favored betting line of -130.
Will Healthy Ewers Be Difference Maker For Longhorns?
A year, ago, Texas lost QB1 Quinn Ewers to a shoulder injury in the loss to Alabama. Currently fourth in the Heisman Trophy odds, Ewers was finding seams in the Alabama defense last year prior to leaving with his injury.
This year, it’s the Tide who have injury concerns that could enable a big day for Ewers. Starting Alabama defensive backs Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key are both uncertain starters due to injuries.

Milroe A Double Threat For Tide
Seeking to be the latest in a long line of great Alabama QBs, Jalen Milroe accounted for five TDs in a 56-7 season-opening win over Middle Tennessee State. He threw for three scores and ran for two others.

The Tide are 21-0 SU in their last 21 home games. However, Alabama is just 2-2-1 ATS in the school’s last five home games.
Texas vs Alabama Prediction
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has won an NCAA-record 100 games SU against ranked opponents. Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian used to be offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide under Saban.
Texas becomes a member of the SEC in 2024 and can set the tone for that arrival with a victory at Alabama.
Texas vs Alabama Pick: Texas Longhorns +7 (-110)
