The Wildcats enter Week 7 after suffering back-to-back losses to Indiana and Washington, respectively.
Northwestern’s defense will be the catalyst to keep them in this football game, as Tim McGarigle’s unit have allowed just 5.5 yards per play this season. They’ve held opponents to a 36% third-down conversion percentage, and have surrendered just 0.350 points per play.
The Wildcats have allowed 24.3 points per game, but gave up 41 points to Indiana last week, and will need to adjust to have any hope of winning this contest.

That being said, Northwestern’s struggles lie on the other side of the football. The Wildcats offense has scored just 15.5 points per game, averaged just 4.2 yards per play, and rank dead last in the nation while putting up just 4.8 yards per pass.
They have almost no rushing game to speak of, averaging just 3.7 yards per rush and will need to get the ground game going to take the pressure off of sophomore quarterback Jake Lausch. Lausch completed just 53.1% of passes for 523 yards and four touchdowns since taking over for Mike Wright.

UM’s propensity to create turnovers and get after the opposing quarterback will have Jake Lausch running for his life on Friday night. Without any semblance of a rushing attack, Lausch will be hard-pressed to beat the Terrapins’ defense with his arm alone.
