- Georgia’s average 2020 CFP National Championship odds didn’t move following the release of Jeremiah Holloman
- Holloman was expected to be the Bulldogs’ leading receiver this season, and will force the team to rely on talented, but unproven players
- Is Georgia still a viable Championship contender this season?
When the Georgia Bulldogs kick off their season August 31st, they’ll do so without a rising star at the wide receiver position. The Bulldogs released their leading returning pass catcher Jeremiah Holloman due to an assault investigation, but despite the dismissal Georgia’s average National Championship Odds have not budged.

Oklahoma Sooners | +1400 |

The Bulldogs remain locked into the number three position on the odds board, and while the loss of Holloman hurts, there’s still plenty of offensive talent on their roster.
A Potent Offensive Attack
Few programs have a legit Heisman Trophy candidate on its roster, but the Bulldogs have two. Both running back D’Andre Swift and quarterback Jake Fromm are top-8 contenders for the award, and Fromm is expected to be an early first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The dynamic duo alone should be enough to carry the Georgia attack, but the offensive riches don’t end there. The Bulldogs have a dominant offensive line that gives Fromm the time to pick apart defences, and Swift the space to break off long runs.

The receiving corps is likely the weakest link on offense, but while they may be short on experience, it’s a group is loaded with potential. Three of the 10 scholarship receivers on Georgia’s roster were 5-star recruits, while another four were 4-star talents.
Potential Hiccups
The Bulldogs haven’t won a National Championship since 1980 and if they’re going to get over the hump this season, they’ll need one of their receivers to ascend to elite status.
Only one of the 20 teams to make the College Football Playoff since its inception featured a leading receiver with less than 659 receiving yards, and only twice has a team made the final four with a leading receiver who caught fewer than 49 passes.

Another hurdle Georgia will have to overcome is its schedule. While Alabama’s calendar is loaded with pushovers, only South Carolina faces a more daunting schedule in the SEC this season than the Bulldogs. Georgia will square off with four teams ranked inside the top-16 in the early preseason rankings including Auburn and Texas A&M in back-to-back weeks.
The Bulldogs Still Have Plenty of Bite
The Bulldogs have made the SEC Championship game in consecutive years and there’s a clear path for them to return this season. Sure, the loss of Holloman hurts and the schedule is daunting, but this team is loaded not only on offense but defense as well.

Their secondary is elite, their linebackers are electric, and if the defensive line can take the next step, this is a program that will give everyone, including Alabama, major headaches. They’re the favorites in the SEC East and they match up better with the Crimson Tide than any other team in the Nation not named Clemson.
At this point their price feels like a value, and if you’re bullish on them now you should act quickly because their odds are likely to be shortened.
