Florida State returns from its bye to visit Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, September 19. The Seminoles are 1-1, while the Crimson Tide are 2-0 heading into the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC.
FSU last played September 7, losing 27-24 to SMU on a field goal with 21 seconds remaining. Alabama beat Kentucky 45-17 last Saturday, erasing a 17-13 halftime deficit with 32 unanswered points after the break.
My Florida State vs Alabama prediction weighs the Seminoles’ rushing production against a defense that has allowed almost nothing on third down. The updated market prices come first, followed by my score projection and picks.

The winner market heavily favors Alabama, but the margin contract presents a different question. The Tide need to win by at least 20 points for Yes to settle as the winner. A comfortable two-touchdown victory would still fall short of that threshold.
The total is 50.5, with the displayed Over percentage at 51%. Alabama scored 45 by itself last week, although the shape of this matchup matters more than simply carrying that score forward. FSU’s ability to sustain drives will help determine how many possessions both offenses receive.
Florida State vs Alabama Prediction
- Predicted score: Alabama 38, Florida State 17.
Alabama has held opponents to one conversion in 23 third-down attempts through two games. That gives the Tide a clear route to controlling this matchup: limit early-down gains, force FSU into passing situations, and get the ball back without allowing long scoring drives.
The Seminoles rushed for 199 yards against SMU and held the Mustangs to 155 on the ground. That production gives FSU something to build around after the bye. Staying ahead of the chains would reduce how often it has to challenge Alabama’s third-down defense.
The Tide’s second half against Kentucky is the stronger reason for my pick. Alabama allowed just 62 yards after halftime and kept the Wildcats scoreless. FSU can compete early, but may not keep up once Alabama has adjusted to its preferred running plays.
Alabama still has to play cleaner on offense. Keelon Russell threw for 188 yards and a touchdown against Kentucky, but also had two interceptions. FSU forced four turnovers against SMU, so careless throws would give the Seminoles opportunities to shorten the field and stay close.
Daniel Hill offers a way to reduce that pressure on Russell. He rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown against Kentucky, helping Alabama finish with 343 total yards. A productive running game would let the Tide dictate its passing situations rather than relying on Russell to recover from repeated third-and-long plays.
Florida State vs Alabama Picks

The projected 21-point margin puts Alabama just above the spread threshold, so the number matters. I like the Tide’s ability to finish drives while its defense forces FSU off the field. The Seminoles’ recent takeaway production keeps this from being a pick based on talent alone.
My 55-point projection also supports the Over. FSU does not need to match Alabama touchdown for touchdown to contribute enough scoring, and its rushing performance against SMU gives it a route to the end zone. The Alabama margin remains my preferred pick.
