We’ve got Wednesday night MACtion as the Eastern Michigan Eagles (5-4, 2-3 MAC) hit the road to face the Ohio Bobcats (6-3, 4-1 MAC) at Peden Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2.
This mid-week clash has huge implications for both squads. The Bobcats are right in the thick of the MAC title race, while Eastern Michigan is just one win away from punching their ticket to bowl season.
The Bobcats enter as 10.5-point home favorites, with the over/under set at 50.5 total points, according to consensus odds. Will Ohio continue its strong conference play, or can the Eagles pull off the road upset? Let’s dive into our Eastern Michigan vs Ohio prediction and picks.
Eastern Michigan vs Ohio Prediction
Eastern Michigan comes into this matchup struggling, having lost three of its last four games, including a heartbreaking 29-28 defeat to Toledo on November 2. However, the Eagles have overachieved relative to expectations this season, already collecting five wins.
Quarterback Cole Snyder has performed well since transferring from Buffalo, throwing for 2,087 yards, 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions. However, he’s been sacked 23 times and has lost four fumbles.
The Eagles offense ranks 3rd in the MAC in both yards and points per game, but faces a stiff test against an Ohio defense allowing only 20.7 points per contest.

Ohio, on the other hand, has quietly put together an impressive season. The Bobcats are the biggest surprise in the MAC, already surpassing their preseason win total of 6.5. They’ve won four of their last five, including blowout victories over Buffalo (47-16) and Kent State (41-0).
The Bobcats lean heavily on their rushing attack, ranking 21st nationally in rush rate at 61%. But they may need to rely more on the arm of quarterback Parker Navarro (1359 passing yards, 7 TD, 7 INT) against an Eagles run defense that ranks 38th in Defensive Rush EPA.

While Ohio’s secondary is vulnerable (103rd in Pass EPA/play allowed), Eastern Michigan has really struggled defending the pass, ranking 111th in Pass Success Rate allowed and 132nd in PFF Coverage grade. The Bobcats should be able to exploit this weakness.
With Ohio’s strong defense, potent rushing attack, and home-field advantage, I’m backing the Bobcats to cover the 10.5-point spread. The under also looks appealing given the matchup of Ohio’s methodical offense against EMU’s bend-don’t-break defense. My power ratings indicate Ohio is poised to win by double-digits.
Wednesday MACtion Picks:
- Ohio -10.5 (-110)
- Under 50.5 (-110)

The Bobcats are favored by 10.5 at home, which translates to roughly an 81% win probability. EMU sits at +325 on the moneyline, giving them about a 24% shot at the upset.
Ohio has gone 5-4 against the spread this season, while EMU has been a bettor’s best friend at 7-2 ATS. Worth noting: the Bobcats have covered in six of the last seven meetings between these programs.
The total looks pretty reasonable at 50.5. The under has hit in two of the last three EMU-Ohio matchups. For context, Eagles games are averaging 55.5 total points this year, with Bobcats games a bit lower at 47.5.
Eastern Michigan vs Ohio Head to Head
These MAC rivals have met 33 times, with Ohio holding a commanding 20-12-1 series lead. The Bobcats have dominated the most recent meetings, winning seven of the last eight games dating back to 2006:
Date | Result | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
11/09/2021 | Ohio 34, EMU 26 | Ohio +6.0 | Push 60.0 |
09/23/2017 | Ohio 27, EMU 20 (OT) | Ohio -1.5 | Under 54.0 |
10/15/2016 | EMU 27, Ohio 20 | EMU +8.0 | Under 54.0 |
10/19/2013 | Ohio 56, EMU 28 | Ohio -14.5 | Over 55.0 |
11/01/2012 | Ohio 45, EMU 14 | Ohio -16.0 | Over 58.5 |
10/02/2010 | Ohio 30, EMU 17 | Ohio -10.5 | Under 49.0 |
10/13/2007 | Ohio 48, EMU 42 | Ohio -4.0 | Over 46.0 |
11/04/2006 | Ohio 16, EMU 10 | EMU +6.5 | Under 38.5 |
Ohio is 6-2 against the spread (ATS) over this 8-game sample, with the under hitting in four of those contests. The Eagles’ only win during this stretch came as an 8-point underdog in 2016.
While Eastern Michigan deserves props for exceeding expectations, I just don’t see them hanging within single digits here. Give me Ohio -10.5 and under 50.5 points. The Bobcats’ elite defense and methodical ground game should control this one from start to finish.
