- Tua Tagovailoa is still the Heisman favorite, but it’s not over yet
- What if he gets injured? What if he gets tired of winning?
- Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray are close behind
Leading the Heisman Trophy race wire-to-wire is hard, especially if you never play in the fourth quarter. Tua Tagovailoa is still the 2018 Heisman Trophy favorite, but two superstar quarterbacks are starting to nip at his heels.

Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins Are Closing In
The formula for the Heisman Trophy isn’t complicated. A dynamic quarterback at a Playoff-contending team will almost certainly win the trophy. This year, Tua Tagovailoa is not the only player that fits that description.
You probably heard about Kyler Murray, and how he was drafted ninth overall by the Oakland A’s. You might have heard that he’s earning more money this year than his coach, because the NCAA doesn’t care about getting a pro contract in a different sport. You should be watching him play, because he’s a delight:

He’s one of the most elusive players in college football, and he also throws darts downfield like a professional baseball player. If you’re looking for a guy to fit into the Patrick Mahomes mould, it’s Kyler Murray.
If you’re looking for a guy to fit into the Patrick Mahomes mould, it’s Kyler Murray.
I don’t have an NFL comparison for Dwayne Haskins. The best I can do is that playing him is like playing against your older brother in Madden: nothing you try is going to work. Everything you do is wrong. He just scored another touchdown.

Obviously, Haskins is helped by Ohio State’s high talent level and cupcake schedule. He’ll need to record a few signature performances to win the Heisman Trophy, and with Michigan and Michigan State coming up he’ll have an opportunity to do just that.
Tua Tagovailoa remains the favorite. However, should something happen to Tua, or should Alabama’s fully-automated luxury speedboat death machine slow down, Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins both have had the kind of seasons Heisman voters look for.
