  • The Tennessee Volunteers host the Auburn Tigers in an awesome SEC tilt!
  • Auburn’s recent win was low-scoring, while Tennessee is coming off a close loss
  • Keep reading to see my prediction, best bet, and latest odds

I am looking at an SEC matchup between two 3-1 teams when Auburn visits Tennessee at Neyland Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. The latest game lines give Tennessee a 6.5-point home spread, with the total set at 54.5 points.

Tennessee enters this college football matchup after a 20-17 loss to Texas. Auburn has the more recent win, a 21-15 result against Vanderbilt. Those suggest a game where field position and consistency may matter more than explosive scoring, particularly if both teams remain committed to their ground games.

Below, I break down my Auburn vs Tennessee prediction, the latest college football odds, and the matchup numbers behind my best bet.

Auburn vs Tennessee Prediction

  • Best Bet: Tennessee -6.5 (-108 at Bet365)

I am backing Tennessee -6.5 because the Volunteers have shown a stronger overall profile over four games. Tennessee is averaging 40.0 points and 438.0 total yards per game, compared with Auburn’s 30.0 points and 413.5 total yards per game. The most meaningful difference is on the ground: Tennessee averages 241.5 rushing yards per game, while Auburn averages 178.5. That gives the home team a clear path to control possessions without needing an unusually high-scoring performance.

I also prefer Tennessee because its defense has allowed only 15.5 points and 282.5 total yards per game through the same four-game sample. Auburn’s defense has been solid, allowing 20.8 points and 365.8 total yards per game, but Tennessee has been more effective at limiting both scoring and yardage. I am not treating those averages as a guarantee, but they support laying 6.5 points with the home favorite.

The Under is my secondary opinion at 53.5 points. Tennessee’s 20-17 loss to Texas and Auburn’s 21-15 win over Vanderbilt were both decided by less than 15 points. Tennessee’s rushing average can shorten the game, and Auburn’s 127.0 rushing yards allowed per game suggests the Tigers have been able to limit opponents on the ground. I would rather pair that total view with a measured expectation for Tennessee to win than assume either offense will produce a shootout.

Tennessee is the moneyline favorite at -260, while Auburn is priced at +210. I do not see enough value in laying the moneyline price when the spread offers a more useful way to back the Volunteers. Auburn’s +6.5 is priced at -110, as is Tennessee’s, but my projection still favors the home team to win by enough to cover.

Team Statistics and Recent Form

The season comparison favors Tennessee in the categories most relevant to this matchup. The Volunteers average 241.5 rushing yards to Auburn’s 178.5 and allow 119.0 rushing yards per game compared with Auburn’s 127.0. Tennessee also leads in total defense, allowing 282.5 yards to Auburn’s 365.8. Auburn has the better passing-yard average, 235.0 to Tennessee’s 196.5, so the Tigers may need to create more through the air if the ground game does not keep pace.

Recent results provide a more cautious angle. Tennessee’s 20-17 loss to Texas shows that the Volunteers can be held below their 40.0-point season average. Auburn’s 21-15 win over Vanderbilt likewise came in a controlled scoring environment. Those results reinforce my Under lean, but I still see Tennessee’s broader rushing and defensive numbers as the stronger basis for the spread prediction.

My final prediction is Tennessee to win and cover the 6.5-point spread. I also lean Under 53.5, though the spread is my best bet. A reasonable game script is Tennessee using its rushing advantage to build separation while both defenses keep the final score from reaching the mid-50s.
