Despite suffering its second loss of the season in Week 8, Alabama remains one of the favorites in the latest college football playoff national championship odds.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Kaleb DeBoer’s squad generated three first-half turnovers against the Vols, but the wheels fell off after that. Tennessee sacked Jalen Milroe three times, racked up nine tackles for loss, and 12 hurries in the game. Most concerningly, Milroe’s play has cratered under pressure this season.

All of the pressure is on the Crimson Tide in Week 9, as this is the first time since 2007 that Alabama have lost two games before November. They’re now 2-2 in SEC play and will likely need to win out to secure their spot in the expanded College Football Playoff.

Missouri’s strong defensive line offers little respite for Milroe. The Tigers have put up 15 sacks and 59 hurries already this season. He’s thrown six interceptions, with an additional five turnover worthy plays.

Keep in mind, the over has hit in nine of the last 11 games in which Alabama is favored.

Missouri Tigers

Missouri sits at 6-1 overall, with 2-1 record in the SEC after their 41-10 loss to Texas A&M in Week 6. Like most teams the Tigers play their best football at home, so this road contest, in Tuscaloosa, provides a huge challenge.

Corey Batoon’s defense has been the catalyst of the Tigers hot start. Missouri ranks in the top 15 in the nation in points per game (18.2), yards per game (304.3), and third-down conversions (28.2%) allowed. They’ve been especially good against the run, allowing just 3.8 yards per attempt. Moreover, Missouri rank in the top-60 in both PFF pass-rushing grade (82.6), and coverage grade (82.6).

Additionally, on the offensive side, Luther Burden III is an elite wide receiver. Burden is the type of explosive weapon who can change the outcome of a game in one play. The Tigers need Burden to be a game-changer to have any hope of pulling off the upset.

Bettors should note, the Missouri Tigers are a phenomenal 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games played.

Alabama vs Missouri Early Prediction

Each of these teams will be desperate for a victory in Week 9. But, neither Jalen Milroe, nor Brady Cook have played well of late. On the flip side, both the Crimson Tide and Tigers defensive lines have looked awesome over the past few weeks. Thus, the only early play to make is on the under 56 points.

  • Alabama vs Missouri Early Pick: Under 56 points (-110)
