The Northwestern Wildcats showed in week one that they are the real deal, but now they will face the Syracuse Orange in a game that should have plenty of fireworks from both sides.  The game starts Saturday at Ryan Field at 6 PM ET.

The Wildcats haven’t announced if Kain Colter or Trevor Siemian will be the quarterback for Saturday. So far, Trevor is winning the battle.

“(Siemian is) poised and ready to go,” Fitzgerald said. “We have starter 1A and 1B for (the next) couple of years. Although he doesn’t go out there on the first play, he still operates as if he’s the starter.”

Colter suffered a concussion and is listed day to day.

“We were going to face adversity for the first time, so (we wondered) how were we going to handle it,” Fitzgerald said. “We have to trust our training, trust the things we’ve worked on. Guys have to pick up the flag and pick up the slack. That’s what you saw from our team.”

The Wildcats have a 13-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents that actually began with a 30-10 win over Syracuse in the 2008 season opener.

Syracuse lost 23-17 against Penn State, but they left a good impression.

“I was really impressed with the way they played against Penn State,” Fitzgerald said. “New staff, new coordinators, one game of empirical data — it’s not enough to hang your hat on of having a good idea of what you’re going to see.”

The Wildcats are 16.5 point favorites against the Orange.  The game total is set at 53.
